I love deer camp and I enjoy watching videos about deer camp. One thing I notice about every deer camp, whether it be in the U.P. Of Michigan or the swamps and marshes of coastal Louisiana is they all revolve around the menu, visiting, cutting up and having fun and then hunting. The menu is definitely the most important and the most pride is taking in preparing the meals. Our camp is no different. Anytime we plan a trip, the main topic is the menu and what everyone is bringing. Everyone in our group is outstanding cooks and we all have our little specialties everyone expects us to cook. There is never any lack of food or drink for that matter at our camp. And anyone who shows up has a place at our table. No questions asked. We all like to hunt and some of us in our group has been hunting together since we were kids or teenagers. At our camp God, Family, Friends,Food and hunting is the list of importance. I just find it amazing how a hunting camp can alway make things right in the world for a little while. I hope yalls Deer Camps are the same way.

Had a deer camp that I used to go to when I was a kid. Neighbor used to take me because I wanted to hunt and my father never was in to it. I can still remember the old farm house they had. You could see the dirt between the floor boards but the fire was warm and everyone always had fun. Been almost 40 years since I've had a deer camp now.
What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

Deer camp is hard to explain to those that have never experienced it. Besides planting and preparing for deer season, it’s my favorite thing.

I’ve never been in a club far enough away that I had to spend the night there.

I grew up going to “The Camp”. Shoot, we barely ever saw a deer growing up but my gosh I loved it and still love it. The food, the campfires, the cuttin up…ain’t nothin like it. It’s full of fond memories with my big papaw and family. Now, we kill a lot more and better critters but that’s just a bonus!

I was the last charter member of my club. We had a great club for a long time. Most have gone on or quit hunting. Good food and good company.

I do like working at the camp and doing things around there, but when it comes to quittin time, I'm headed home to a beautiful wife and the comforts of my own bed.

Yep that is the biggest thing I miss about a good club. Unfortunately they are far and few now at least that I can find.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I miss a few of the clubs I came up in. The comradery, sharing laughs and great meals, hunting and fishing stories and so on. Most of those older guys are now gone. Now I have my own deer camp and it’s usually just my girlfriend and myself, plus my mother on occasion and a select group of friends from time to time. But the meals are still gorgeous and a major part of the planning of each trip up. Campfires, watching the wildlife from the porch, buggy rides at dark. My lady loves going up off season to sit on the porch and read with a glass of wine and listen and watch nature as much as I enjoy working the land(opening up plots and creating better browse for the critters, planting fruit trees, doing projects to improve the facilities, etc.

I was in a club like that for years. Primitive log cabin for a camp house. 7 miles off the paved road. Hauled in our drinking/cooking water. No electricity for years. Everyone gathered in the camp house and played cards under lantern lights. Had a big propane tank that fed a gas stove where the cooking was done. Great friendships were made. Power company ran poles through the woods and got close enough to bring electricity to the club. That was the beginning of the end for the club. Folks brought tv’s and spent more time in the campers. Fellowship fell off. Card playing stopped. Friendship wasn’t enough to hold folks in the club, for the newer guys. Old timers died off or got in too bad of shape to hunt. Half the lease, where the cabin was, was lost due to being sold off after the owner died. Camp was moved but it wasn’t the same. The rest of the lease was lost due to land swaps by the paper company.

Yep when everyone started staying in campers it definitely changed camp dynamics.
