Just curious to see if anyone saw much rut activity, as in bucks aggressively chasing does? My hunting club is on the west side of CRMA and my farm is on the east side of CRMA. The teenth week of December has been a historically good date range for seeing and killing a mature deer in that area. However, I saw very little activity last week. Only one small forkhorn chasing and I spent several hours in cutovers. I killed a 140's deer two years ago today but I have not seen much activity on cameras or on the ground. Just wondering what y'all saw in general. Working today and tomorrow has me antsy that the best is yet to come for that area.

They were just starting. Saw some smaller bucks at the check station. Biologist thinks they are starting and the coming week is the big week.

Really wondering how the extra cold and high winds will factor in.

Another question. On the gun buck days the hunters on the bow only area have to go with bucks only 3 on one side rule too, don’t they?

I hunted Bibb county near the WMA. Saw a small 8 and a spike that didn’t look or act rutty. There were a lot of scrapes though. The state rut map puts most of Bibb in an earlier rut than most areas of state. I’ve hunted private and that area of WMA for years and have seen the rut all over the place. Den bucks with does as early as the 15th and as late as Jan 30. The best time as of late seems to be last week of December and first of January. It can be frustrating. Heck one time I shot a doe on opening weekend and when I got down to retrieve it a five point came down same trail as her and right up to me within ten yards and didn’t want to leave. I had to shew him away several times before he gave up on that snatch😂

Met a guy at the processor on Saturday that had killed a 8pt and a 10pt on back to back days last Fri/Sat. He said they weren't chasing but cruising. His pics were on the Conservation site the next day with both of his deer. 2 good ones. Our deer in Coaling have been killing it the past 2 weeks.

Deer started cruising and acting silly early last week. Saw a chase in the rain one day last week. Still chasing yesterday….almost more of a lockdown than chase. Not on the WMA but very close.

Spike was cruising last Friday.

Bama DNRs facebook page. They post all the nice public land bucks they can get a hold of to try and sell more WMA permits. And hunters are willing so they get their 5 minutes of Facebook fame over their deer...
