Matt you kinda got me wanting to go now. I’m just not sure I’m man enough to get in there with them. Maybe Friday evening Go. Layer up, cover your face, put hot hands in your pocket and go. It’s not that bad in those temps if you’re prepared.

Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of hunting only when the weather is ideal. I have to hunt when I can. So with that, I'll be headed to the camper Thursday night and in the woods all day Friday.

I’ll be working. And in this one instance I’m glad I’ll be working. Besides, I’ve already made my season and I’m ok with that.

Roads could get closed
If we get heavy snow - can lose power
I was in big ice storm in Texarkana years back - shut that town down. Got 12-17 inches of snow - tree limbs were snapping and sounded like a 270 going off - lost power - some lost it for weeks
Hopefully we dont get snow and ice then maybe it no big deal - the ground getting extremely wet and us getting 2 straight days rain ain’t good and more coming
May want to stock up if u hav not - hopefully we all thinking about hunting Friday and not other more serious things
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever

If our season was just a week or two yes. If it's sunny and low to no wind maybe. But our gun season is a week shy of 3 months long. There will be better days and the deer will still be there. Low single digits and -15 wind chill , in Alabama humidity , most folks down here never been in cold like that. Y'all better be careful.

FYI to all driving through mud /water Friday AM. Mud holes probably won't be frozen hard enough to drive on yet , so you brakes will get wet and will freeze VERY quickly . Been there , done that. Might wanta though your little Burnz-omatic torch in your ride.

I might hunt Saturday. I'm gonna bait a spot with an electric blanket Friday morning.

Yall be careful out there. This is a level of cold most of us rednecks have no experience with. This can not be overstated ! I hunted in Canada at -15 and the wind always blows up there. However , I got much colder down here just after Christmas '83.

Cause that’s where I kill big bucks on windy days. High winds are by far my most productive at killing mature bucks. They can’t hear, see or smell when everything around them is swirling so they get on their feet. Killed a lot of real nice deer this way. It happens to also be when everyone else stays home. So you think they will move early Friday or need to wait until mid morning and go?

However , I got much colder down here just after Christmas '83. Buddy of mine from Kansas visited here several years back when we had extreme low temps around New Years. Can’t remember the year, but we had single digit lows and upper teens for highs. He was here to hunt so we did. Said that was the coldest he’d ever experienced in this southern humidity.

The ruts kicking off, mature bucks are on does now, and they’re going to be hitting bedding areas regardless of temps. Nothing stops a buck in love, even single digits.

The guy we pheasant hunt with from South Dakota came to Lamar Co deer hunting a few years back and also said it was the coldest he has ever been. And I will definitely be hunting just not in the mornings. Afternoons in a shooting house. In mid November spent 10 days in Illinois and I dont think it got too far above freezing the whole time. This will be about the same.

Wish I could. Reminds me of the old days of blue jeans freezing solid hunting deer and wearing those cold ass rubber boots
