We have 5 chickens. All are right at or almost 2 years old. Once they started laying, they were all basically laying every day. A couple of months ago we started to get 1 egg a day. Then 2 molted and we haven't gotten any. Molting is over. All hens seem healthy. What could it be? They seem totally normal but don't lay. Been feeding 22% layer pellets forever. Even back when they were laying. Mixed breeds.

The average is probably only around 250 eggs per year for your better layers. So that gives you four months with no eggs. Some of your best layers will do around 345 to even 360 but that usually only their first two years and then it starts dropping. There are some breeds that only lay 200 or less. Also length of daylight hours will slow some down want be to long now the light hours will increase and you see some increase in laying.

Ours always greatly slowed production from December through February.

Put a light on them at night , my hens lay year round. My wife’s afraid they’ll get cold so on cold night they have heat lamp on them . I think it helps more with them continuing to lay .

But it was still warm when they quit and the days were longer. And they gave eggs last winter. Any ideas of other possible causes?

Winter time. They may not lay or lay sporadically. Give it time. Bet they start again in spring

Have you watched them closely to make sure they didn't start eating the eggs they were laying? If they ever start that it's hard to stop them. They will eat yolks and shells.

When my birds turn 2 years old, I sell them and start over.

You don't get a lot of eggs beyond 2 years old.

My experience also. After 2 years or so, mine stop laying.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Do they have access to sunlight? That can be the difference between a few eggs and no eggs. Mine always got slow in the winter regardless.

Daylength is slowly increasing. That should fix it. If they're not laying by early February, then you've got issues.

I’m getting 10-12 a day from 18 hens. They slowed down to 2 a day during the cold weather. I added the heat lamp through the worst part of it and added a light bulb permanently. It took a few days but they are back to normal. Staying warm and molting consumes a lot of egg making energy. I will say I have an Easter egger that lays a couple per month. She started out good but is about to go in the crock pot.
