You've been hunting this buck for 3 yrs and this is the first time you laid eyes on him. Other than trail cam pics and the huge tracks you would have never known he existed. He has busted out of a cutover chasing a doe crossed the holler and finally hears you shouting at him. He's stopped broadside at 75 yds just inside of the cutover only thing showing are hind qtrs. You got 5 seconds you shootin or not?

No way would I intentionally shoot one in the hind quarters broad side, it wouldn't even cross my mind.

Just to stir the pot a bit can you hit a 2 liter bottle turned sideways every time at 75 yds with a rest? If so that's about the size of the spine and pelvis area on a broadside hind qtr.A hit in there and their not taking another step.Yes you go low and it's a disaster just like a heart shot go low and you shot him thru front leg.

At that distance you have no shot, simply due to the reaction time of the deer, regardless of how he is standing, or how good of a shot you are.

Killed several with that shot. It is as quick a death as a heart shot. With a rifle, I think i would make it happen.

Nope. Passed on almost the same situation last december except it was a young buck and a shooter 8 I had been getting on camera. I saw both of them coming through the thick stuff and had no shot. When they got in a shooting lane by the time I found them in my scope the only shot I had was the rear end. Not only is it a bad shot in my opinion, but no way to be positive which deer you are shooting. Plus too much good eating in those hind quarters.

The world needs more people holding deer in pictures, and less people holding cameras in front of mirrors.

Oh, for some reason I thought the question was for a bow shot. With a rifle, I would probably take the shot.

not sure, but I think a lot of hunters are quick to say they wouldn't shoot unless the shot is absolutely perfect but saying it and doing it are 2 different things.

I have pulled the trigger in worse situations. So far I have only lost 2, and one of those I thought I made a great broadside, behind the shoulder shot. Found tons of blood, trailed him off and on for several days, just never found the buck. I still hate to think about that one.

Probably would do it. Take out the rear wheels and he ain't going far. Hit the spine and he ain't going anywhere

A high hind quarter rifle shot is one of the most deadly. Hit the femoral artery and he may go 30 yards. At 75 yards, good placement shouldn't be a problem.
