Whatever switch you use, make sure it has a light on it so you know it is on.
Nothing worse than forgetting to turn it off when not needed and then blinding people behind you on the way to work the next morning.
In this day and time, might lead to road rage.

And yes, you need a fuse or circuit breaker for sure.

I've got the upfitter switches and looked into what it takes to hook stuff to them, just watching youtube and reading forums...sounds like Ford made it a major PIA to hook up to them which I just don't understand. Totally defeats the purpose of them.

Truly under bumper? Why not put them on top of the rear bumper to help protect them? Let me know how those lights work. I'm thinking of ordering a 7 or 12 inch flood/spot from that same company to mount on the front of the boat.

If you are stuck in the mud then hooking the lights to reverse won't help!

And if you put them under bumper, then they will be buried in the mud!

Best to just spell out "HELP" on your roof and keep them on at all times! grin

Gomer

Does your truck have a 7 way trailer plug? If so the purple wire (on my truck) is for the reverse lights. If you use that you can add these same reverse lights to the trailer and they will come on when the truck is in reverse. The lights being at the back of the trailer will be of more use than an extra light on the bumper.

If you use that option you could then connect the new bumper lights to the bed light (which controls the interior as well). I really only use the bumper light when I am locking a gate or doing something behind the truck.

I’ve never understood why folks hook them to their reverse lights. I just figured laziness to be the culprit, but who knows. 🤷‍♂️

Well if you only need them for extra light while in reverse that's a no brainer. If you need them on a switch and have truck bed lights why not just splice to them ( see above post )

I’ve thought about putting some on my truck just for reverse lights, but would never hook them to my reverse lights. Besides looking dumb, I want to be able to control when they come on. I don’t always need them when I back up.

The truck I have now has the LEDs installed in the bumper itself and are wired into the reverse lights. It was that way when I bought it. I probably would have never cut holes in the bumper to do them that way. But, all in all, I like them and find them really useful. The truck has tinted windows and I rely on them when backing up in the dark. Even with the trailer hooked up with the four wheeler on it, they help. I rarely have to roll down the windows. If I do, it's usually in the rain where you can't see out the windows good anyway. I'd like to be able to turn them on without the truck in reverse, but I use the cab light for that purpose. It gives off enough light.
