I was told it is a wood waste dump. In other words the place where guys who cut trees dump the trees they haul off. A bunch of people are jumping up and down complaining saying shut it down for good. I know its a problem. I imagine alot of people are tired of smelling the smoke. What is the answer? The tree service industry is big right now. Thats because theres more houses and people who owns those houses want trees cut. So, what do the companies cutting those trees do with the debris they're hauling off those tree jobs? The county and city dumps charge anywhere from $20-40/ton. That can be $125/load for my little dump trailer. Could be $500 or more per load for a big loader truck. There used to be smaller dumps but most of them are closed now. I know this thing burning for months is a problem but the people complaining so much dont seem to be thinking about where the waste will go. So whats the answer? I have a feeling theres fixin to be a change come that people are not gona want to pay for. And homeowners wanting trees cut will be the ones who foot the bill. "And homeowners wanting trees cut will be the ones who foot the bill." What's wrong with that? Honestly asking. I don't care to smell a burn pit everyday. BTDT

How much of what you tree guys cut down could be donated for firewood? That is just an idea. I am sure there are some of the debris that isn't useful for that, but maybe you could find out how many mens' groups are involved in the area churches and see if any of them would be interested in starting a firewood ministry of sorts (be willing to cut it up into useable lengths, stack it/load it/deliver it, etc). I am sure it would help some of the older folks out who are on fixed incomes who cannot go out and cut their own any more and it would give you a place to at least offload some of what you need to dispose of. As for what wouldn't make good firewood, do you have room on your farm to have a dedicated burn pile for it?

In a lot of European countries they use small electric generation facilities for dumping wood and paper waste. A county size dump could generate enough electric for a lot of local homes and businesses.

Bowtechdan, im just saying if the hauling starts costing the tree service 3x the cost, it will be passed on to the customer. It will have to. It will definitely raise the price of getting a tree cut a good bit. It wont effect me much, im just not that big. It might even help me because i usually dont pay to dump. So my prices can stay the same or if i do raise them just to stay close to everyone else, i get that money, im not giving it all to a dump. Yeah, I was just stating the obvious. If someone wants/needs a tree to be removed, it SHOULD be their cost.

If someone wants/needs a tree to be removed, it SHOULD be their cost. I agree and if i have to pay to dump i quote the customer a price+dump fees, which i bring back and give to them. I do it that way so i dont pay $100 because i missed it by a load and they dont pay $100 because i added a load to cover my butt. The big tree services will add a load to cover their butt and it will be $500 not $100. But thats assuming the only way to dump is by the ton. Wood waste dumps charge them by the load and its $100-$150 for a huge loader truck. By the ton i guess a load could cost them $700-$800

I dont know what the answer is but if everyone who owns a house is gona get their trees cut, they gotta go somewhere. Theres getting to be more and more wood waste and less and less places to put it. The way our country’s energy policy is going right now. it’ll be a good problem to have. We’ll have to burn something to keep warm and the methamphetamine cooks of today will turn into a sought after methanol cooks of the future lol.

We got two illegal dumps up here that "mysteriously" catch fire every couple years. This last time ADEM came down on them pretty hard. I don't know what the answer is but these fires need to stop. Nobody has got hurt "yet". But I could see it happening very easily. Both these are 100% wood from tree removal. Was pretty funny when dump trucks were showing up to dump when the landowner was being read the riot act. The fuel load at this one is unreal.

I’m pretty sure this is not option for that area but could be .here in Florence muscle shoals area my boss has a dump pit where everyone dumps trees ,brush, wooden crates an anything made of wood an it’s free to dump there. Lot local tree trimmers, utilities companys an anyone with brush can dump there . He has a huge grinder and when he gets enough piled up he grinds it into chip trailers an hauls it to west rock mill in Stevenson al a sells it for fuel wood. They burn it to run boilers.makes electricity .He making money an it something for truck drivers to do when too wet to be logging .Another option he has. He has a contract with a kingsford charcoal plant in north miss to supply them with hardwood chips. Anything that is clean hardwood chips he sends there and they make charcoal for grills. Think they pay bout $47 a ton for that. Good money in that .

There’s also a pellet manufacturer in Crossville that takes in chips. A few years ago one of the big companies had a big contract with the electric co-op for clearing ROWs. They short term lease several acres and piled all the slash there for a few months. They then brought in a drum chipper and shipped it all to Crossville .
