I'm wanting a 410 turkey gun for me and my kids to use. What do you recommend? I've seen people having problems with the Steven's 301 and a RDS. I'd like to keep it under $400 if possible, also what choke do you recommend? TIA.

I have the Stephens and zero issues, if I was strictly hunting with a 410 I wouldn’t mind having something besides the single shot but I doubt I ever go that route

Same here stevens 301 factory choke apex ammo and a bushnell TRS 25. Whole lot for a little over $300. Bought mine for my son, i still tote my 20ga, but will carry the .410 in certain places.

Anybody used the Mossberg pump or semiautomatic 410s?

I haven’t, but that semiautomatic looks pretty sweet. I have shot the tristar g2 viper at skeets and it’s an awesome little gun. I might get me one of those. I know lots of people use the single shots and I use a yildiz o/u, but I like the option to shoot more if I need to

I have a mossberg pump in 410. It shoots good. Just a typical mossberg, rattles and cheap feeling.

I like more shots, too. 👍

I’ve never owned a Mossberg, so I was just curious.

Look into a Rossi Turkey Tuffy. I bought one last year. It comes with a modified choke and a turkey choke for TSS ammo. Brand new is less than $250. It's super light weight. The stock and forend are polymer, so it has a toyish feel to me...but that sucker is powerful and very accurate. With the factory turkey choke that comes with the gun and Apex 9's, I got 145 pellets in the 10 at 40 yards. I'm sure with a Jeb's, IC, or the like, you could put some more pellets in the 10. It has an adjustable stock to compensate for a younger, smaller hunter too. We put a little reflex sight made by Site Mark on it.

I’ve got a yildiz elegant sxs. I haven’t turkey hunted with it, but it’s a real nice shotgun. I’ve got a couple indian creek chokes for it, but haven’t even patterned with tss yet

I want that exact gun but without the pistol grip stock. I don’t like a pistol grip stabbing me in the ribs with every step when it’s slung around my neck. Especially when there is a need to run, jump, or crawl. I have sent them 6 emails requesting them make one in a compact version bronze ceracoat with bottomland stock/forend and I’ve gotten zero response from them.

Yildiz single is the only one that's lighter than a 28ga. You take the barrel off and send it to SumToy for choke and red dot mount. You take the screw cap off one side of the hinge pin and knock the pin out with a brass punch. Easy peasy.

Top performance with .410 requires careful handloading, but people seem to do fine with factory loads. You can get 28ga shells from the boutique loaders like FoxTrot and others. People seem to greatly underestimate what TSS sub-gauge loads do.

Always liked that stock its perfect for turkey hunting. Is your brother using the choke that comes with it or did he buy aftermarket?
