I have owned several since I was 15 yrs old and I will never be without one in my safe. Marginal for deer (no blood trail usually) but usually extremely accurate, very low recoil, very flat shooting, explosive hits on small game and ammo usually easy to find,

I don't have one but I recently worked up a couple loads for a friend. Has gun is your basic Remington M700, stainless steel with the then standard 1:14 twist rate. The twist will only stabilize 55 gr or less bullets, which is a minus for this gun. I think Tikka makes a 22 250 with a faster twist for heavier bullets, which is what I would want if I ever get one.
Anyway, the gun shoots great and is very pleasant to shoot. Berger makes a 52 gr varmint bullet specifically for the 1:14 twist barrel. Easy to get 3700 FPS loaded with Ramshot Big Game powder.
Also loaded up some 55 gr Sierra GK bullets over a dose of Big Game. Easy 3700 FPS and same point if impact as they 52 gr Berger. This load was for deer if he wants to use it but will also be bad medicine for yotes.
Very good accuracy, sub 1/2 MOA, with very little load development required. Shoots like a lazer out past 200 yards but due to low BC of these light bullets it sheds velocity rapidly.
A 22 250 AI with a fast twist 1:8 barrel shooting 88 gr Hornady ELDM bullets would be the cat's meow IMHO.

I acquired one in a trade a few years ago. Ridiculously accurate and fun to shoot as a bench gun. I really didn't have a use for it so I sold it.

X2 on the twist rate. Have a Savage 22-250 and I wanted to try the Barnes 55 gr TTSX but Barnes recommends a faster twist, think my rifle is 1:14.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

I think Tikka makes a 22 250 with a faster twist for heavier bullets, which is what I would want if I ever get one. Hopefully in the near future, I’m gonna buy a Tikka 22-250 with a 1:8 twist. Then have it setback and rechambered to 22 Creedmoor. 🤞

Had one in M700 and it was one of my favorite rifles I shot it so much I burned the bbl out It would punch one ragged hole with 55 grain dogtown bullets Killed hogs and deer amongst outher critters with that rifle

.243 is the better choice for coyotes/varmints IMO.

I’ve taken quite a few deer & hogs with this round. I can’t remember a deer going more than 40yds. Blood trails weren’t that great Was curious about that. With some of the better bullet construction these days…it might be the cat’s meow for neck shots.

You must be mistaking the 220 Swift for the 22 Hornet. The Hornet is a much slower, milder caliber than the 22-250. But Hornet ammo is very hard to find now.

Standard twist rate means short bullets. If it were fast twist (it's probably not) and you handload then it'd be real interesting on deer. Standard twist, if we're talking deer, means a small selection of factory load likely to produce exit wounds. That's the real issue with 22-250. It's old news with slow twist rates. Factory guns don't usually have fast twists in this caliber, so you're shooting light, low BC, short bullets. The cool kids have 22 Creedmoor now. More case capacity, far better heavy/long for caliber bullet options, and they can still shoot the light varmint bullets faster than a 22-250 if you want to shoot varmint. That's where I would try to steer people instead of buying comparatively old tech.
