Dwight Yoakam, She wore red dresees and also The distance between you and me. She Wore Red Dresses is one great song...especially the Live Version with the dualing Accordion and Bass Guitar. Dwight's Mr. Johnson's Love is like the counterpoint argument to He Stopped Loving Her Today which makes it sadder to me because he didn't Stop Loving Her Today. Midland's Adios Cowboy ain't the saddest, but damn sure leaves no doubt the dude is sad.

Concrete Angel by Martina McBride. He stopped loving her today, the Possum. Also, "The Grand Tour" by the Possum. The lyrics of these three are gut-wrenching. "As you leave, you'll see the nursery ... Ohhh she left me without mercy, taking nothing our baby and my heart." That wailing crescendo is like an uppercut.

“All these years” has always hit me hard. We all get in a rut with work and prob could do better to strengthen our marriages. BUT Maggie’s song by Chris Stapleton is so sad I can’t listen to it. I made it through one time…. https://youtu.be/FE5t-VNpPd0

One thing I've never understood is why people like sad/depressing songs so much. I, personally, try to avoid them as much as possible. Same with downer shows/movies/books/etc. A lot of people will tell you they particularly enjoy them when they're feeling down because they can relate to the songs. Like chicks listening to breakup songs after getting dumped. To me, that seems counterintuitive. If I'm down about something, I'd much rather listen to something that takes my mind off of it and/or cheers me up.
There's too much sad, depressing crap going on in real life to intentionally seek it out in music, tv, film, etc. When things are bad, and there is no one to listen. There is a song out there that can speak the words you cannot find.
