The Feds are supposedly cutting the limit this year for Alabama Charters because we didn't catch enough last year. "...And the reduced aggregate weight of red snapper caught in 2022 resulted in the federal government slashing the state’s quota for red snapper fishing this year by such a considerable figure that some officials believe the 2023 season might have to end before summer vacations are over..."

They are supposing fewer snapper exist because the recreational catch was less?

Best thing ever for the Snapper population was the Horizon Oil Spill years ago. They shut down Snapper Season for a year. Buddies told me the following year you could drop a bare hook down and catch em.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I fish for them out of Fort Morgan. Yes....because we didn't reach the quota last year the Feds. think they are in Danger. Of Course they are not looking at the other possible reasons for not reaching the quota: High fuel costs, higher costs of everything else that's in the picture, rough days when you couldn't go, etc.

Welcome to what we’ve been dealing with for years here on the east coast of Florida.
We got a 2 day red snapper season last year. Yes that’s right, 2 DAYS!
You talk about a cluster at every ramp on the east coast.
To keep 1 snapper per person. What a freaking joke.
At least you have a true season, instead of just 2 days.

The feds are morons.
But the main problem is who’s running it, Roy Crabtree. He’s the chief idiot.

Oh and you can’t go anywhere on the east coast of Florida north of ft pierce without catching all the snapper you want. You literally have to leave spots to get away from them.

He's right. You can walk on their backs at just about any inshore spot. A 2 day season is really a joke.

Feds are having scientists purposely undercount because they’re being paid by commercial fishermen to do so. Scientists want federal grants and they’ll write up whatever the check writer wants.

All the commercial fishermen don’t seem to have any problem catching & selling all the snappers they want.

If I had a million dollars I’d bet any of themSOB’s they can’t pull up on any structure and get a baited hook (Artificial, dead or live bait) to the bottom without catching a ARS. It’s ridiculous out there. I can remember a 13” and I believe a 8 fish limit on them when I first started saltwater fishing. Nor only that you could catch a mixed bag of fish. It’s all about the money now. Same with hunting.

Word on the street is the east coast isn't going to get a season this year . I guess the reason would be that the bottom fishing closure they we're trying to impose for the east coast got voted down the end of last year. This came from a charter captain out of Port Canaveral .

I always thought if there was ANY restriction on recreational harvest, then commercial harvest should be shut down completely.

Numbers I heard years ago was that for every dollar (single, $1) per pound net to commercial fishermen, that same catch was worth about $20 for recreational to the state and feds. They just can't figure out how to perform the headassectomy needed to see facts instead of bribes.

I fish out of Carrabelle, Apalachicola, and SGI about twice a year with a friend. We had to abandon some of our best grouper numbers, cause you can't get a bait through the snappers so the grouper can see it.

Not true. You need to see the numbers and amount of money the Snappa Mafia brings in and greases the states. Google “King Pins of Gulf”.
