The Feds are supposedly cutting the limit this year for Alabama Charters because we didn't catch enough last year. "...And the reduced aggregate weight of red snapper caught in 2022 resulted in the federal government slashing the state’s quota for red snapper fishing this year by such a considerable figure that some officials believe the 2023 season might have to end before summer vacations are over..."

Best thing ever for the Snapper population was the Horizon Oil Spill years ago. They shut down Snapper Season for a year. Buddies told me the following year you could drop a bare hook down and catch em.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

They are supposing fewer snapper exist because the recreational catch was less? I fish for them out of Fort Morgan. Yes....because we didn't reach the quota last year the Feds. think they are in Danger. Of Course they are not looking at the other possible reasons for not reaching the quota: High fuel costs, higher costs of everything else that's in the picture, rough days when you couldn't go, etc.

Word on the street is the east coast isn't going to get a season this year . I guess the reason would be that the bottom fishing closure they we're trying to impose for the east coast got voted down the end of last year. This came from a charter captain out of Port Canaveral . Not surprised.

I always thought if there was ANY restriction on recreational harvest, then commercial harvest should be shut down completely.
Numbers I heard years ago was that for every dollar (single, $1) per pound net to commercial fishermen, that same catch was worth about $20 for recreational to the state and feds. They just can't figure out how to perform the headassectomy needed to see facts instead of bribes.
Not true. You need to see the numbers and amount of money the Snappa Mafia brings in and greases the states. Google “King Pins of Gulf”.
