Anyone filled their pool in recently? How much did it cost? I loathe taking care of our pool and we just don’t get much use out of it with young kids. We could use the extra back yard space. I don’t know that you’d be interested in it or have the want/need, but if I were in this situation I would look into setting an underground storm shelter in it and then backfill it with dirt. I’ve never seen or thought of this but it popped into my head when I saw your post.

Wish I could help on pricing I’m planning on using my 4.5 yard pan to pile it up around the sides and bucket to push it in till it’s level.

She’s been on me wanting both. ![grin grin](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif)

I would think you would want to jackhammer the bottom for drainage and bust out the concrete around the edge and remove or put in pool before filling.

Figure up the cubic yards , have dirt delivered and dumped close as possible . Rent a skid steer and have at it. If there's concrete to bust up , you might rent a impact hammer attachment and throw the busted concrete in the deep end.

I would think you would want to jackhammer the bottom for drainage and bust out the concrete around the edge and remove or put in pool before filling. A buddy of mine that does excavating has filled in several. He uses the bucket on the backhoe to bust the bottom up so it will drain.

I don't know how old your kids are, but we lived in a house with a pool when my son was 7 until about 9.
Wouldn't trade anything for those years. We were in it all the time.
My kids are 3 and 1. We hopefully won’t be in this house more than another year or two.

If you are not planning on staying there, then look at comps in your area for similar homes with pools vs without and see how much you will be losing in value to fill it in because you will definitely be out funds to have the work done. If it were me and I was planning to be out of there within a couple of years, I would leave it as is if it is all functional. But I would keep it maintained so it will show well when it is put on the market. Consider whatever it will cost to fill it in and put that money toward the down payment on your next home.
