Does anyone have a clue where i could get Beggar Lice seed. The deer just crush what pops up in my pasture and I would love to plant them heavy in my buffer areas that do not get hayed or bush hogged.Have not been able to find seed anywhere on the internet.

I used to get them from either Azlin Seed out of MS or Valley Seed Service when I was using the seed for research. I don't remember which one. Should be able to get a number online.

I'll send you a pair of my fleece camo pants. If the seed is still viable after being washed multiple times you'll have enough to plant 5 acres.

Seriously, deer really like beggar lice plants? We don't have much of it here, but it was thick around Troy.

At my place they do. The only place I have it is lightly scattered through a 20 acre pasture right at the house. Every plant is chewed down to the stem pretty much. I have a 60' buffer around the field which I would like to plant heavy enough it might keep up with the browse and self seed more heavily. I disc 1/3 of it every year and am gonna try this stuff next year in the disced area. I did find the seed after figuring out the proper name Desmodium tortuosum and it is even the Alabama strain. The internet is a pretty good tool.

Good for quail and some songbirds, too, isn't it?

One of deers' (and my) favorites. One of the best deer foods in burned, thinned pineywoods:

Narrowleaf desmodium

Roundleaf desmodium:

Had to throw in ragweed:

All exhibiting deer browse

It is interesting to know that deer like beggar lice. I guess I'll just stick with soybeans....less mess.

Ahh but burning and managing open pines are easier to maintain large quantities of drought and disease resistant high protein deer browse all growing season pretty cheaply.

Well, on our farm we've got about 100 pine trees and my dad, even at his age would whip my azz with his belt if I even THOUGHT about setting a fire. He doesn't give a rats butt about deer management.
