I’d look at a land cruiser or a Lexus gx470 or lx570 (older) Gonna need a bonus check from work to add these to the list. Would absolutely love a J100 Land Cruiser!

Nothing wrong with the Lexus for most off road situations you're likely to encounter but the Lexus is definitely not more capable off road. It's slightly less capable in the extreme conditions the 4RUNNER was designed for. Youtube is full of videos comparing the two. I recently found a GX for a friend and I wouldn't hesitate to own one myself but there are some things to consider. The Lexus requires premium fuel. The V-8 has about the same HP as the V-6 in the 4RUNNER and the GX requires a timing belt that post 2004 4RUNNERs do not. You're gonna get a little less gas mileage with the GX.

As far as traction, the Acura MDX AWD surprised me. I am not saying it is a truck because it's not, but I can attest to traction on a semi froze muddy South Dakota road. We were pheasant hunting and hit a spot where there was a Ford truck half in one ditch and a chevy half in the other. They may have been in 2wd when they slid off the road, but the MDX split both of them and never spun a tire. I am sure clearance would eventually be an issue along with objects flying up in the undercarriage, but would be fine if you planned to stick to the field and clean woods roads. With all of that said, I have a sierra and an old jeep, but the mdx would work for my public land hunting.

Is rav 4 big enough to lay down in and sleep? Best I recall a 4Runner is maybe 5’8 with seats down, so RAV4 will be smaller I’m sure.

Yep a decent late 90s with the 4.0 is hard to beat for a hunting vehicle. They'll handle off roading well

1999 Ford Ranger/Mazda B3000 or B4000. Mine is a 99 B3000 Extended Cab. These are hard to find just for this reason. I know several guys who have them for this purpose and one guy who just bought a Jem of one for a backup to his original.

It’s for the GX. It’s got the 4.7 engine and is bulletproof. It runs just fine on regular gas. They just say that to boost their performance numbers. I just sold a 2012 with about 200k miles for 13k$. Ran like a brand new one

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with the RAM. Just put a camper shell on it you could sleep in the back on a cot.
How would anyone haul all their camping AND hunting stuff out there in some kinda compact SUV? Like Jed Clampett?
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

This is kinda what I was thinking. Truck with a bed cover seems like a much better option to me.
