Finally went turkey hunting with some one who knows more than I have, we went on Public land we had birds gobbling at us early from Private land they never came our direction though. We saw hens all morning but never heard any gobbles. Finally at 1240 he struck up a bird and we made a move. We basically Sprinted up a ridge and then army crawled another 30 yards trying to get in range of this bird before 1:00 hit. we had him strutting about 100 yards away but he did not cut the distance in time. Watched him walk off and we eased out of there and went back to the truck. Did not kill one but we'll try it again in the AM. I understand the hype now.

If that turkey could see a 100yds

I'd walk the other way calling if could have got up. And set up again . The turkey was probably never gonna come .

Seeing distance is a bad thing in most cases. IMO

Don’t think we called once he got that close. If we had more time we would have tried a different approach on him is what my buddy said, but we had 20 minutes.

Yeah , same with me when I worked on a farm . He wasn't dead by 7:30 or I had to go. You'll get him

Lol. There’s something special about a spring morning and gobbling on the roost.

Yes there is. And I've yet to kill a turkey.

Dang, ninjy sneakin and crawling on your first hunt? Your ruint. Enjoy the good ones because they can be few and far between, and yet you'll keep going.
