Dang that's a big rattler..we have em close by but just never seen any within a couple miles of here in 40 years...killed 2 about 5 miles away before..what's funny is my dogs name is Snake because his tail looked like a timber rattle when he was born Yeah there was some forced perspective in that photo because it looks 10 ft long but I held it above my head and it touched the ground. Probably right at 7ft. My wife didn’t go to the club with me anymore after we found that one 7 feet? That's about one foot longer than the biggest on record.

Benadryl has minimal effects. It does sedate them. Low dose aspirin can help with the pain. Other than that. Pulling the collar if there's swelling in the neck is about the only thing you can do. I carry mine to the vet. None of that, other than pulling the collar is gonna keep them alive. Usually if they're gonna die, it's pretty quick. Few minutes to a couple of hours.

Make sure that collar is off The swelling will move is what I'm saying. From face to neck. If the bite is in the top of neck it'll sink to the bottom of neck.

my little 25# treeing feist got bit yesterday. didnt see the snake but looks like one fang got him in the eye. took to vet got shot, steroid, and eyedrops. still swelled & bloodshot, hope he doesn't loose the eye-he's made a heck of a squirrel dog. I freakin hate snakes.

That's terrible. I'm not a vet, but the eye is togher than you'd think it would be. It'll actually heal pretty quick. I think as long as the optic nerve doesn't get damaged. I'd look for cloudiness in a couple of weeks. In a day or so, I'd kinda test his vision on that side. Get so he can't see movement with good eye, and move your hand towards wounded eye, see if he notices or blinks if you move towards it. You could test it now, but keep in mind that there might be some blurriness and hopefully the vision will improve from what it is now.

Benadryl (for the venom/antihistamine), clean the wound gently with gloves if dog will let you (snakes eat rats for a living), antibiotics for bacterial infection (again, they eat rats), and a steroid ONLY IF VET APPROVED)….and keep PLENTY of fresh water handy for them. My hounds that got bitten regularly on foot or face when I grew up on the river…they liked going out on the pier in the sunshine, and drink water from a bowl.
Unless it’s a big rattler, they’ll probably sleep on-&-off for 2-3 days with their body working it off.
