I never understood why the tip is based on percentage. Why does the gal bringing you your $7 lunch plate not deserve as much $ as the one bringing you your $18 supper plate. Truth is, I probably tend to over tip at lunch and under tip at supper if your talking percentages. Interesting thought. I have never thought of it that way. Wife and I went to dinner last night and the bill was like $110 and we had a great waiter so I left him $30 but in the end he did no more for me than the girls at the Stockyard at lunch who keep my glass full and make sure my meal gets there quickly yet they I only tip them $5.

That’s because the tipping “rules” are created by the people receiving the tips and we just accept it. That being said, I tip as a percent of the check. When I look at the work performed, it’s truly not worth more than $5 to take my order, bring my food, and fill up my drink once. I feel like that is generous really. I used to run a shovel for $7 an hour so that shapes my perspective.
