Evidently a roadkill deer in Holmes county tested positive for CWD. 4.5 year old doe. Found out from alert thanks to AL department of Conservation. Didn’t get a thing from FWC. I’m curious to see how the incompetents from FWC react. Probably mess things up worse. I like them about as much as I like Democrats. rofl

I saw the info from DCNR, and then saw a release from Georgia DNR about it. Both were extolling their "WE'RE GOING TO INCREASE SURVEILLANCE NOW THAT FLORIDA HAS IT!!!!" plans.

Nothing from FWC, though.

Every state will get it. Only a matter of time. Georgia's on the clock now to discover it.

I just saw the email also. Geez I hope they don't screw us on a 'kill as many as you can' campaign. We already have low deer density at our place.

What I ain't understood yet is how it jumps from spot to spot.

If deer farm was the reason seems like it had to brought in pretty recent and I thought they test farm deer often ??

It gets there by combustible engines going 70+ down the highway.

Not sure why deer farm mentioned. Unless I missed something I don’t recall reading anything about a deer farm in either email I got or the FWC media release I had to search for. Lot of roadkill deer in Holmes county and easy to see a bunch crossing roads at night. I’m always careful driving around there at night especially back country roads. Lot of deer in Holmes county.

Prepare yourself for new expensive rules and restrictions:

-Mandatory CWD check stations. The closest one will be 30 miles from your hunting area so you gotta drive down there with the head every time you shoot a deer
-new $30 CWD privileges
-shut down hunting on public land so they can go in and kill every deer so they don't die of CWD
-Tack on another $15 to license costs for more CWD research

and any other kind of restrictive and expensive thing they can come up with

Or hunters ignoring the law and bringing home heads and bones from CWD states.

Question... Can a live Animal displaying NO symptoms be tested for CWD?

Said another way.... can you capture a deer and test it at the point of capture.... or do you have to kill it first. I don't know the answer to this.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

There are live tests available but accuracy is far less than testing the lymphatic or cerebral tissue.

So, CWD can be in lymphatic tissue correct? So I can de-bone a deer and still bring home lymphatic tissue. If that’s the case, what the hell is the point in de-boning?

It shows up in the retropharyngeal lymph nodes first due to its proximity to the brain. That’s why they test those. It can be found in multiple body fluids and tissues.

Wonder what the incidence is of people consuming CWD infected venison and early onset dementia in high CWD areas? That's what the X-factor is going to be.

Well FWC reacted as I thought if not worse. CWD Zone established with no more annual supplemental feeding allowed. No minerals and have to debone anything to take out. Still reading through it. Runs east of 81 north of I10 and north border of 2 on west side and east to include parts of Washington and Jackson counties. Basically ruined my season. Thank you FWC biologist jerks for overreacting. Lord I do hate that FWC biologists group who already screwed us on antlerless program north of I 10. I understand protecting state but I think they’re overreacting as always.
