Rec-teq is the way to go. They have a phone app and you can turn the grill on/off remotely. If it hasn't changed, you can turn the Traeger off with app but you can't turn it on.
More stainless steel parts in the Rec-teq too, you would have to get the Traeger Ironwood series to be comparable.

We have one at the firehall and love it. Have a high dollar one at city hall. Smoker on one side and gas grill on the other. Cooks very well. Did a brisket Friday

I've got an el cheapo Masterbuilt and it serves the purpose and only cost around 200 bucks. It's not an easy bake but you do just set the time and temperature and forget about it for a while.

I loved my big green egg, but sold it and bought a Traeger. The Traeger makes smoking meats easy with temp probes and the computer making sure the temp stays steady. All from your iphone!

This!!! Love my recteq. I researched a lot before paying the extra for a recteq but no regrets here.

I don't give a crap what anyone else thinks about pellet grills, it's the best investment I've made in a long time. I have a BGE that hasn't been lit, once, since I bought the RT.

The food is plenty smoky enough. It's very simple to cook on. I don't have to tend it, which gives me time to do other things. If you want to sit up all night, tend a smoker and check the meat every hour, then you don't need a pellet smoker. I have better things to do. I just like to eat good food.

I hardly use my komado joe since the pellet grill purchase. Smoked 2 family packs of chicken breast this week. Turned out great.

Then gas grills should be disqualified also.

Makes sense but I am the exact opposite. Tending the smoker/grill and the cooking process is as enjoyable to me, if not moreso, than eating the food.

Ace hardware has the timberline 850 for $700 off. I bought one 3 months ago and no regrets so far. I still grill steaks on my Kamado though.

Picked up a pitboss used very cheap and it’s been solid on smoked butts for about 3 years now. Can grill a burger on the grate. I’ve seasoned cast iron skillets on it too keeping from smoking up the house. I like taste of the pecan pellets best.

It's supposed to be 102 degrees this Thursday. Are you going to burn splits when you get off work to cook a few pieces of chicken? I'll push a button on my Broil King easy bake
and have a cold beer!

I own a traeger that’s probably 12+ years old. I did have to replace the board about 5 years ago. Traeger customer service was great. They walked me through troubleshooting and helped determine the failure. The part was about $85. My only complaint is they do not impart a heavy smoke. The newer boards have super smoke that helps some, but still not the same as a stick smoker. Other than the faint smoke flavor, I have zero complaints. I would buy another when mine craps out.

To each his own

I’ll mention this again

Some of the biggest names in competition BBQ circuit use pellet grills when they’re kicking back. Duck camp is full of those guys and traegers. Actually just a few traegers now as they have a bunch of PK grills Kevin has a full on commercial kitchen and then off the side a grilling smoking area.
