Heading out of Destin Sunday and definitely taking the bait bucket and going to catch a few pin fish at the dock before the boat leaves. Depending on what time you head out the bait man should be stocked up on cigar minnows Fishing on a party boat. I have hit up the bait man before and that was the best idea I coulda dreamed of. Talk about cost vs effort!

Front rubs are effective at times. Once you start the front rub the snapper is hooked, and the fights about over. It’s just a matter of how you gonna get it to the boat. Wine is my go to Snappa' bait for the One I'm Seeing now. In the Summer it works at the Beach Place watching the Sun go down....in the Winter it is Killer in the Log Cabin with a BIG Fire Roaring!! That’s cheating Buckwheat. Might as well use an electric reel 🤣

I agree with all of the live bait options discussed on this thread are great live bait options but also have a unique different story. Myself and Megacott from this site went years ago in the middle of summer with a smaller operation just starting out captain on a 28' center console. Luckily had a calm day and could get out 30 miles comfortably. The only live bait he had was larger sized shrimp. I was very concerned and discussed it with him with him telling me that if we would trust him it would be an epic day. He didn't have a trolling motor to hold spot so we anchored, more concern from me. His process was to chum the snappers up to the upper column and drop the live shrimp below them to the bottom. The smaller snapper would rise to the chum first leaving only the bigger ones closer to the bottom. The second part of this in his mind was that the fish at this point in the season had been pounded and seen every type of live/cut bait available except live shrimp. I have to say he was correct and we only caught stud 20#+ red snappers on the live shrimp. I've never fished like this since then but am definitely not apposed to it and will try again if I ever get my own boat again.
Y'all stay hydrated and safe today and hug the ones you can......tomorrow isn't promised to any of us.

All we ever use is cut up squid chicken rig style but it does come off easy. Why is it called chicken rig by the way? It is called a "Chicken Rig" because usually you have 2 or 3 hooks on there that are smaller than you would typically use for Snapper/Grouper. Rig is intended for catching usually smaller species such as Vermillion Snapper,Red Porgies,Triggerfish, etc. Same term as used for small Dolphin---aka----"Chicken Dolphin".
