i would never spend that much for a rifle Everybody spends their money on something. We don't all have to agree on what is appropriate. I personally would never spend thousands (or even hundreds) on a week at a beach, but I know a bunch of folks who fly to Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and other places to lay in the sun and wade in the ocean, and I know folks who spend a ton on Disney, cruises, ski trips, etc. I have a friend who is a member at the B'ham Country Club in Mountain Brook. He thinks that is a bargain, but he also thinks my tractor payment is outrageous, even though my monthly payment is less than his. Live and let live.

For a 6 y.o. I would go Tikka T3x or Christensen in .7-08 or .308. With some really good glass. A Steyr Pro Hunter is also a good choice. That’s what my younger son started with in a .308 when he was 7. He is 23 now and hasn’t changed a single thing. That’s why never encourage people to buy smaller caliber rifles (.243, 6cm, or single shots). I didn’t want my boys to be looking to get another rifle by the time they turn 18 and then the youth gun goes into a closet and never sees the light of day again.
.308 is pretty much the perfect caliber to start with that they will not outgrow IMHO.

But just for killing deer they all work even the cheap ones .tiny groups consistently another story throughout a brand name not really on lower end rifles except Tikka

Only drawback to the T3x I can see for a younger shooter is not being able to cycle the bolt and load/unload without the safety off. I really like my T3x Hunter 6.5 Swede but that’s my biggest gripe, other than the polymer magazines. But it seems everyone is going to them. Always been a fan of a blind box/floor plate magazine system. Not too ashamed to say I’ve gotten to the woods and realized I left a detachable magazine at the house. I know someone who had bolt slightly bumped up out of battery and didn't realize it and rifle didn't fire on a nice buck and buy the time they cicyled bolt deer was not able tobe seen again to shoot? Actually a good feature of a Tikka imo Bolt can be bumped out of battery on several rifles but not a Tikka... Remington 700 and Ruger American to name two

My wife shoots a browning micro medallion with a nice bausch and Lomb scope. They can still be found on gunbroker, and shoots excellent. I am building me one in 358 for a woods gun. They are smooth short and the bolts work easy. I like the swing down floor plate with an internal magazine which I can pop out and give to her when we get set as well makes for easy loading and unloading.
