What’s the aldeer review of the place? It’s 2.5 hours from the house and a little over an hour from the farm. Is there a bad time of the year to go?

I’d keep an eye out for when they have those big trail rides, gets packed during those. Any other time should be good. They don’t tolerate any problems so it’s rare day if something happens.

Food itself is a little overpriced but for the overall experience, it's worth it. They had a live band when the wife and I went. I don't know if they always do or not but they sounded pretty decent. It was in the spring when the days were comfortable and evenings were still a bit cool. We had a pretty good time of it. It's almost clear across the state (east and west) for us but I'd make the drive to go again, just not this time of year. My old fat butt likes cool better than hotter than hades. It may be tolerable cool in the evenings since it's in a hole that I'd almost call a cave. Large deep overhang anyway.

It’s the kind of place that worth going to once for the experience. The cave is really cool and they had good music the time I went. As mentioned, the food isn’t anything special but not bad either. It’s typical bar food. Prices weren’t crazy, but you definitely know that you’re paying for the extra expensive of the location, logistics and the shuttle rides back and forth.

There were some short trails with interesting stuff around too.

I agree with the reviews and I also camped on the premises. I enjoyed 3 days there just riding the motorcycle around the area.

It's worth going to at least once, after that it's the same ole run of the mill grub.

Wait until it cools off in the fall and you will have a better experience. It is a good family experience, especially if you have property near it and want a quick meal without having to drive 45 minutes to town for eats. To me, the food is good and I have never had a bad meal there. I usually always order the hamburger with fries. This is my favorite.

Its one of those places to visit One time and then youve seen it
Food is mediocre at best
Scenery is ok but not awe inspiring

I agree with others , food is fair , well worth a one time trip. Cool place , literally. You may as well swing by the Coon Dog Cemetery while you're in the neighborhood .

All of this.

Question: Has anyone every stayed there? My wife was asking about the silo cabins they have there. She's dying to go spend a weekend in a damn silo for some reason.

Don't expect to get a cold beer before 5pm...
Some goofy equestrian law says you can't sell beer before 5 pm if you also offer horse back riding on the same property

as others posted, make sure there's not a scheduled ride!!! Last time I went they had some mule ride or something. Took over 2 hours to get down there to the cave to eat. When we go we order the large sample platter. I think it costs like $35 buts its a huge tray with several things on it. Chicken tenders, fries, cheesesticks, mushrooms, really good fried green beans.

Awesome weekend when they had the chuck wagon races. Always liked riding their trails. It was built with “horse people” in mind…. Always liked their food.

The food at the cave is just average bar food, so unless you are going to eat, Dismals Canyon is a much cooler place. You can see where Aaron Burr hid out after he killed Alexander Hamilton.

Rube Burrows, Lamar County outlaw was the one that hid out at Dismals.

Rube Burrows may have hid out there too, but Aaron Burr hid out there...

I am not aware you can "stay" there. I have visited the place and eaten there. The only thing special about it is that it's a bar and a restaurant in a cave.
