Got a new property to throw into the options this year. I haven’t been to the property yet so I’m not sure where roads or trails travel through yet, but based on the topo map what area do you like? I always find these post interesting to see what sticks out to you big deer killers.

How’d you get that much contiguous right outside Skyline?

I’d be all over where those saddles are and where a draw comes to a flat halfway up the hill

I love hunting skyline but I turned that piece down few years ago. I couldn’t get access to the top part through adjoining land owners. There is some good deer to be killed in there for sure.

I know a few guys that hunt it and was offered to hop in with them. Hated to pass it up and really don’t know if I’ll have time to hunt two properties.

Me and Jbatey hunt a 800ish acre tract about 1.25 miles due south of this land across the valley. Knowing the kind of deer the area produces, I hated to pass it up and at least have a change of scenery if I wanna let ours rest a while.

The top of that gulley on the western side looks pretty promising.

What a small world. I took the scenic route a few weeks ago and remember riding by Harmony Cemetary. That is a tough task you have given us without the benefit of scouting. I know if it were out West, you look for the saddles and ledges.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

That place looks awesome! I’d start scouting by walking below those bluff walls on the ridge tops. Ought to be trails and sign to key in on there. Also, while scouting I’d be trying to find the best way to get up there without keeling over from exhaustion. But that kind of terrain can hold some dang good deer.

Those dark green spots about halfway up the mountain on the eastern side look like potential bedding cover.

Either one of the gulleys in the north leading up out of that pocket could be potential travel routes.....looks like possible bedding low in between them

Just put out a feeder and a cell camera anywhere. You will kill all the mature bucks on the property.

Those woods are probably majority hardwood with minimal understory.. but that’s just a guess. I see some pockets of pines that could be bedding or thicker. Looks like some saddles where mature hardwoods meets those pines. I would probably check out those edges first. Looks like there’s a good bit of south facing slopes. Probably some pretty good property.

Deer like edge- find some edge and scout the transitions from pine to hardwood or open area to thickets. IF I had to go in blind with a climber, this would be my strategy- and be above the thermals early morning.
Deer are gonna find the easiest route between bedding/water/ food. Maybe try some cameras on those areas.z
Hope you get a biggun.

Hard to say without knowing how you are able to access. Looks like a great blank slate with a lot of potential for habitat management/manipulation and effective hunting strategy/property layout.

I assume it would be near impossible to pinpoint any particular area that is currently ideal bedding/secure cover for mature bucks as it looks to all be closed canopy forest.

With that said, the middle circle on the post/picture above is the first spot that stood out to me.
