True of practically all fish. It’s something that collects at different rates within the food chain. Shrimp have mercury. Things that eat shrimp have more. Long lived things that eat those things even more. In freshwater, bass tend to be very high in mercury.
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet but speaking of fish that many people turn their noses up to; barracuda.
I used to fish south-central FL regularly and loved to get a cuda under @30”. Not the big ones. Talk about mercury there. But the smaller, juvenile cudas have flakey, mild white meat like flounder. Every now and then I’ll catch a gauganche or sennet surf fishing and they always come home.

small cuds are really good eating. Big reef cuds usually have high amounts of ciguterra and will kill yer ass.
