Again I'll ask, in 45 minutes they never thought to call the cops to come get the pontoon to move? Or did they and the cops never showed? A licensed captain - I'm guessing 100 ton - should have known better than to let his frustration get the better of him and send the co-captain and mate or whoever it was over there. The whites were being stupid drunks, should have been dealt with by cops before it ever came to this.

I don’t know Hall. The captain was on Montgomery news talk station 93.1 WACV yesterday morning and I just heard bits and pieces on tune In radio. He said that he was telling the pontoon boat crew that he was going to call the police if they didn’t move on the PA system. He was on Joey Clark’s show so there’s probably an archives of it. Jim Cantrell is the boat captain.

They did call it took them 18 minutes for the first officer to arrive.

So that means they waited roughly 30 mins before actually calling according to the 45 min timeline the sheriff laid out today. Still, 18 mins is ridiculous response time considering it was a city operated ferry with a licensed captain making the call in. This all could have been avoided very easily...

Plus MPD’s headquarters is less than ten minutes from Riverfront Park.

Considering the police station is about 1.5 miles away and there are numerous continuous patrols throughout downtown Montgomery.

Yes the captain said he tried for almost 20 minutes on the pa to get them to move. They just shot him a bird and walked away.

According to the police chief. There was officers already there due to some event. The call came in but but because of the description it wasn't urgent. Once the fight started and the other calls came in it took them 3 minutes to arrive on the scene. 4 officers, then a few more shortly after. Not that they did much. That's more or less how he responded.

The way one group of people are acting , they just stood up and defeated the KKK ! But in reality it was a couple of young guys, 1 adult male ,and a couple of females that seemed to be trying to break things up.

The chief’s press conference provided further details on the fight that has been widely shared on social media the past few days.

The incident began at about 7 p.m. Saturday when the Harriott II Riverboat, carrying 227 passengers, attempted to dock in its designated and reserved spot along the waterfront. But a private boat was docked in its space, and the boat’s owners responded to requests to move with obscene gestures, curse words and taunting, the chief said.

Pickett, the co-captain, was picked up from the riverboat by another vessel and brought to the dock to try to have a conversation with the boat owners and get them to move, Albert said. There, the boat owners confronted the captain in a “very hostile manner” and then attacked him, as the video shows, the chief said.

“As the co-captain approached the dock and attempted to peacefully move the boat over just enough so that the Harriott could park, the owners of the boat confronted him in a very hostile manner. There were words exchanged, and then it turned into a fist encounter… the co-captain was doing his job,” Albert said.

The fight was “brought on by reckless individuals who did not use good judgment and caused an event that certainly was avoidable,” Mayor Steven Reed said. “That said, the police department reacted very swiftly and very intentionally to address the matter, as did other citizens in the community.”

Lauren Spivey, a witness aboard the riverboat, told CNN they had been waiting about 30 to 45 minutes for the small boat’s owners to come and move it, “but nobody came forward.”

She said an employee eventually went over to the small boat and started untying the vessel, and a man who appeared to be White ran over. Video of the interaction shows the employee and a group of White men got into a heated discussion.

After several minutes, a shirtless White man charged and shoved the employee, who flung his hat into the air, the footage shows. The shirtless man then threw several more punches, and a group of several other White people knocked the worker to the ground and started hitting him, the footage shows. In addition, a young White male wearing a life jacket came over to the scene and was struck by one of the shirtless White men, the video shows.

After watching the whole video I have kinda changed my opinion. White boys were wrong for not just moving the boat but damn that was a shucks show on the river boat!!

This is exactly what Reed wants. He wants blacks to know they have his approval to act any way they wish with no repercussions.

Exactly my point, you are saying they were already onsite but for 18 minutes they just sat there didn't bother walking down just b/c someone that passed it along to them said it wasn't urgent? This is the problem when the cops are instructed to not worry about people breaking the law unless they are shooting up a place. Thugs(black or white) get to just run wild for 20 minutes while the cops are sitting up under the tent at some "other event" making sure they don't break a sweat. They have no incentive to go try and take control of a situation even if on city property. I'm not blaming the street cops, they've been failed by their leadership but we all already knew that.

The second wave involving the chair occurred after the boat docked and the police were present. The people that run Montgomery got what they wanted.

Like I said before, everybody involved in that mess is lucky nobody drowned or got murdered cause all of them came a lot closer to that outcome than they realize. One bad hard punch, somebody hitting their head on a post the wrong way, chair fracturing a skull, heart attack, etc...

I’ll correct some things since I’m watching this go sideways. Call held for 15 minutes by dispatch. Officers got there once they were dispatched in 3 minutes. Considering the time frame it’s not uncommon to have multiple calls holding. There were no officers at riverfront to my knowlegde, but they were in the downtown area. You have to walk to riverfront on foot.

I’ll imagine the call came in as a dispute with nothing more happening. It’s when it escalated the police were notified and responded.
