I can’t believe how hard the guy hit that lady over the head with that chair. Seriously could have hurt her.

I’m just curious if the USCG should be involved in this incident as well. Being the Harriet II (USCG official no. 635158) is inspected and a Certificate of Inspection is issues to the riverboat; also the captain needing required licenses along with the deck hands having appropriate Merchant Mariners Documents required by the COI. Would appear the Captain would be responsible for his crews actions, especially directing a deck hand go move or approach the owners of the boat to move it. Just something to ponder?? I know the USCG doesn’t have the bite it did years ago; but navigable waterways is the US is compliant with USCG Regs.
Per a post earlier in this thread by Boathand: "I have contacted U.S.C.G. Sector Mobile and I will be contacting legislators involved in the maritime domain. I don’t want to get into specifics but there seems to be a serious issue with the vessels security plan, crew members inciting violence, facility security plan, and possibly the Captain’s actions in this incident. I would encourage everyone to contact Sector Mobile at 833-mob-uscg and inquire about the status of their investigation with the maritime matters of this event."

I am also curious about how the Insurance company who covers the Riverboat responds. If I were the Insurance company I would drop the coverage without hesitation, too much risk, especially going forward.

I just figured the USCG should and that’s a big should be involved. I worked Marine Compliance for a couple Drilling Contractors in the gulf and in Mexico; both, USCG and Foreign Foagged vessels.

One of the group, that was not involved in this, took the captions golf cart and parked it in the renaissance hotel lobby. The captain talked about it on his talk show tour recently. that sounds like a man that doesn't fear litigation in the slightest

I read an article that said the chair guy had done received $270K in donations. Ok. So before all of the Go Fund Me money all the guy was looking at was a $500. fine and some court costs. Now it is worth it for the woman to sue him in a civil court for a lot of money that he is also going to have to pay taxes on. If she had sued him before he would not have any money to pay her but now he does and it is public record that he does. So there.

Any chance she could get a jury that would be even remotely not biased against her?

A good enough lawyer can have her case moved out of Montgomery county.

Is it actually the City of Montgomery who owns and operates the Harriott II? Could the city be self-insured through tax revenue and not have third party insurance? The city or any other company operating under the Jones Act does not have to be insured at all, but I bet the City has a policy if the vessel is operated by the City instead of a vendor/operator.
