This is a link for ya'll to look at on Google Maps. 32.3279576507142, -86.25273908777942 https://www.google.com/maps/@32.328247,-86.252883,202m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu
This is the Governors House Hotel in Montgomery, it was operational and still nice until Montgomery went on the trajectory it is still on today. The City bought the hotel from the state year for $100 and are still looking for investors. The State had several years of tax liens against.
Governors, Presidents, Celebrities, and the super rich all spent time there. But the City of Montgomery grew all up into it and now look at it. The beautiful green colored swimming pool in the shape of Alabama, collapsing roof, and pothole ridden parking lot is emblematic of what Montgomery has become.

I was in Montgomery this weekend.
Costco was great, went directly next to the zoo to pick up a bottle of Freon from FB marketplace for my Dad…wow not such a good area.

Sheeeet! You know nothing. Selma criminals learn from Montgomery criminals. Not kidding either. When something criminal would be in trend in Montgomery we would prepare ourselves because we knew it was coming to Selma in a month or two. Our thugs learned but were just a little slower on the uptake.

Unless it was a hunting place in the country, I wouldn't invest money in either place right now and really don't see anything getting better until the majority of Black folks have had enough and want leadership that looks out for the whole of both cities.

Didn't it have a lounge called the Diplomat? I remember when The Dip was the place to go in Montgomery.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

It's a rough side of town. Think about what a disaster that Alfa's headquarters are also in this rough area.

This website is the first thing I thought of when I saw Skinny's post. I love that blog.

There used to be this motorcycle adventurer guy based in Alabama and he was a very good historian and photographer. He would post on ADV Adventure Rider all the time. He would take motorcycle rides to all these abandoned places, but he would research them first and download all these original photos from back in the day.

Once he got there he would replicate the exact photos showing what the place looked like now. Many with his motorcycle in the pic. Then when he got back home through some kind of wizardry, he would take the original photos and the super impose his new photos of what the place looks like now on them and turn each photo into a picture that gradually morphs from old to new. It was amazing.

I love history like this. Even if it is unpleasant to look at sometimes.

City of Vestavia just bulldozed a similar eyesore. Past time for it. There are few cities that aren't in some state of decay. It's reflective of our country as a whole.

I think they are turning that into a fortress, moat and all. Then think about Baptist South Hospital. I worked security for Baptist East and had to go to South often to get unusual meds or take samples to their lab. They take security there seriously, as they have to. A local that lives in the area told me one time that South is very close to where three different Montgomery gangs' territory intersect. That is why that particular area is so dangerous. A lot of gang related violence, either protecting their turf or looking to expand it.

I rebuilt the cable in there years ago. It was a schitt hole then. That whole side of Montgomery needs to be knocked down but that would just drive the crap out to other areas and bring them down further.

Diplomat was south of the governers house on the corner of Norman Bridge and the bypass. Diplomat is now a crackhead motel

We had several training meetings at the guv's house back in the day. Woulda been 90's and early 2000's. I was always stuck in that far back section of rooms.

My biggest takeaway was that this is right next to BJ's Barbershop... Wonder what kinda haircuts they be giving up in there.

Put it this way. Its right next to Montgomery Mall, which is now also under city ownership and is a police station and public school. Across the bypass is something that used to be a Chuck E Cheese but is now a nightclub. I think a plastic pecker adult store is also on the corner, and about 10 or 20 stolen title fast cash loan check washing stores. I am amazed the Honey Baked Ham is still in business there.

I don’t remember a Dunkin’ Donuts in that area. Wing master is in that area and is the best one in town. There used to be a movies theater behind the Krystal and I saw No Holds Bar? there when I was young. We would get hair cuts in that same strip mall way back when.
