The talk about Mt lions got me to thinking about the Mink I picked up off the highway here in Millport. My FIL told me he used to see them all the time, then they kinda disappeared. I’ve been in the woods A LOT and I’ve never seen one alive. They’re pretty reclusive too I guess. They’ll be one or two hit on the highway every year or two here on the Lux. Picked this one up earlier this year. https://imgur.com/a/2Ah8qqT

I used to see them running through cotton fields next to sloughs and fish ponds back in the late 90’s. They were trapped pretty hard for a while and the pelts brought a good sum. Not sure if those programs dried up or PETA or what.

I would assume this is a big one? Others I saw were not much more than fox squirrel size.

I watched one in Lamar Co years ago one morning chase a swamp rabbit. I had shot an 8pt right at Daylight one morning and was just siting enjoying the woods waking up when I heard a rustle in the leaves coming towards me. The cane cutter was much bigger than it was. He never got close on dry land but he was trailing that thing like a beagle. I was enjoying watching him hunt but didnt think he had a chance. Probably circled past me 3-4 times. He must have been persistent because the rabbit had squatted in some water at the edge of a large lake. I heard him hit the water and the rabbit squealing. He had it by the neck and moved really well in the water but was barely able to drag it on dry land. Deer dogs came down in the bottom I was in and ran him off. He had to drop his well deserve breakfast. Still one of the coolest hunts I ever had.
Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!

Fishermen see them more than hunters do. I got a pic on a trail cam of 4-5 of them during turkey season several years back.

I've seen about 5-6 in my days but I hunt along the River and swamps. When my brother was in high school he trapped to raise money to buy calves to raise. I was in college but remember him being so excited that he caught one, almost as excited as when he caught a bobcat.
When I was the caretaker of an old house in the country it had an old Corn Crib on it. I had a good old Yellow Lab that one of my baseball teammates gave me. One day she brought something from there that looked like a mink but a tad smaller. The next day she got another one. I took them to Mark Mims and he was stumped. He did some research and finally found out that it was some kind of weasel that is rare for Alabama. I don't know what he ever did with those things.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Do they look like a miniature otter? If so, i saw one swimming down a very small creek in the Conecuh National Forest this past February.
