After years of wheat, oats and rye, we are trying WMS Magnet and buck forage oats with wheat mixed in. We are separating the two to see what they like best.

Why plant Austrian winter peas? My experience is they come up and in one bite they are gone.

I wouldn't mix in any wheat with the Buck Forage Oats.

I agree. I’m a fan of Buck Forage Oats but I’m to cheap to buy them.

Personally I’m not a fan of wheat. It’s like rye grass. Deer will eat it but it’s not preferred. Oats are highly preferred by deer.

Deer like wheat just fine......It's just more finicky than the other grains. It goes nitrogen deficient and rank in poor conditions.

The oats will grow better if not crowded out. That's one reason I drill them. Also the deer are going to them over the wheat anyway.

I will definitely not mix the two now. Thanks for speaking up.

I am planting straight wheat and possibly some red clover. Oats are the least cold hardy and got hammered in last years Christmas freeze. I dont believe that I will have one deer less than I would if I planted a multi-grain blend.

I’m only planting 2.5 acres around our camp. I got 3 bags of deer magnet, 1 bag Mississippi mix, and a bag of triticale from WMS. Planted the deer magnet 3 years ago and our fields looked like a golf fairway they hit it so hard. Awaiting soil sample results to see what fertilizer to use
