Used to the trucks had mud tores on the back and the nose was down. Now the idiots have squatted trucks and suvs with the exhaust cut off and 40 inch wide thin wall tores. At least when we put mud tores on a two wheel drive we wouldn’t be scared to go through a mud hole and get the trucks dirty.

We ran the Buckshot Mudder type of tires on the back of the Chevy trucks and rarely got stuck in the red clay mud.

I sure miss those old days.....

My grandfather was the proud owner of a 1976 Ford Ranchero with Buckshot mudders on the back. Yazoo clay was all around and it was a necessity on the farm in the clay and Big Black River bottomland.

Mine was a 67 Chevy step side, hot water 6 & three on a tree. 31-10.50 was as big a tire as it would pull.

I began my deer hunting career with a 1976 Toyota Corolla with a manual transmission. It had positive traction rear wheel drive. I put mud grips on the rear, took out the passenger seat for better deer hauling(trunk was rusted out), and drilled a 1” hole in the passenger side floor board to drain blood and water when washing the interior out. The interior was all vinyl. I never got it stuck. I drove it like a rally car. Hair pin turns were a breeze when I learned to snatch the parking brake.

I think I’m going to do that on my 2WD truck since my old Z71 died recently.

That Posi traction made all the difference in the world.

87 dodge dakota with rear mud grips will paw. Only problem was you couldn't steer it.

My dad had a 2wd 78 Chevy long bed with 31x10.50 mudders on the back we hunted out of for years, it would go pretty good. That black belt gumbo mud was tough to get around in with a 2wd though.

funny you should mention this, my brother had a 69 Chevy stepside with a three speed on the column. He had big buckshot mudders on the back and there is still places on us where you can see the ruts he made spinning.
It would go but by God it was slinging mud everywhere.

The farmers thought 4wd was something that would just tear up.

in my neck of the woods.... you were a poser if you weren't running Co-Op Grip Spurs and weld the diff. You could get by with some Power Kings without looking like too much of a chump.

If I put mud grips on the back of my 2wd tundra, that sucker will go just about anywhere.

First truck I had. Ford ranger 2wd. Normal tires on front, big mudders in the back. It would go through some chit. Probably 1985😁

I had a 69 f100, 74 chevy, 77 F150, 73 F100 all with mud grips on the back. I've got an 06 chevy 2wd now that I'm seriously considering putting some buckshot on the back. A heavy cable come a long and mud grips was all you needed to go anywhere.

When I was 16 my dad took in an old beat to hell rail buggy as a trade in. He told my brother and I to take it and make it nice. So we did. We put a set of headers, new bucket seats, a keg tank on it and buckshots. I'd put it against most 4x4s when it comes to getting places and getting back out. I sure miss that thing.
