I have fished the Dam at Henry Neely many times with my uncle who was a guide there. We fished the boils with thread-fin shad and a sinker. Drive up into the boils and drift the bait letting it bounce off the rocks. We caught big catfish, carp, tons of small mouth, some large mouth, stripe, and hybrids. I caught several 6 lb small mouth and the biggest one my uncle ever caught there was over 8 lbs, as I recall. It's fun but if you don't know how to position the boat for the drift, you don't get as many bites.
Here's to champagne for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends.

The only things I have fished for there is Stripers, Hybrids and Crappie. I've caught my fair share of Stripers and Hybrids there on both Threadfin and Gizzard shad in the tailrace. There have been plenty of days when a Pearl colored 4" or 5" Sassy-Shad was just as productive. Not likely this time of year, but when the water is running hard they can be found further downstream from about the old lock on down to below Ohatchee Creek. Sometimes they will hang just below the Trestle in the washouts. In and around the boils are great when the turbines aren't wide open. I like to pull up beside and slightly below it, toss a Sassy-Shad in so that it falls off the back side of the boil and then try to route it underneath the boil. Stay well away from the area around the catwalk. Respect them and give them some space and for the most part they will respect your space. Sometimes there will be guys on the catwalk with surf rods that are capable of casting well into the floodgate area, maybe almost to the far bank. Best Striper fishing is when one turbine is wide open or when two are releasing about that same amount of water. If there is no water running, go find some Crappie instead, or that's what I do (try to do that is) anyway. I've found the Crappie all around the area, in the riprap, up against the dam, at the lock, below the trestle and up in Ohatchee Creek. Basically the whole area. I haven't fished specifically for Whiskerfish, but have caught a bunch of them too. Sometimes they are just there, and hungry. My son with a nice Blue Disclaimer: I'm not sure but I believe I may have posted all of these images here before. None of them are very recent.

After reading the responses, it is likely that I have mistaken my trips to Henry Neely with my trips to Wheeler. Sorry about that fellas.
