We were able to help another young lady this evening recover her first deer shot with her crossbow…..The hit was high in the back just under the spine and there was only one pin drop of blood on the ground around the hit site……We only found a couple more pin drops along the trail but Otis made pretty quick work of it finding it about 200 ish yards from the hit site. We reran it afterwards with the young dogs and got them in on the action too…….

Cold weather should get the keyboard clicking CNC. Looking forward to the next series of tracks.
It won't improve anyone's aim but DRT deer don't make for tracking stories.

Had a call late this evening just before dark to look for one that had been gut shot earlier this morning……They had jumped him up a couple hundred yards from the hit site around 4:00 this evening and decided to back out and call in a dog…..We caught up to him around the 700 yard mark and we’re able to dispatch him without much fuss….The hunter had just clipped him in the lower belly enough for his guts to fall out.

Ran 2 shoulder shots last night. Never caught up to the first one and ended up baying the second one twice but the dogs just couldn't hold it. That wind made it brutal

Tracked one this morning for an 80 year old Vietnam vet with 5 purple hearts.......Unfortunately the buck ducked his bolt and it just deflected off the top of his back giving the deer a little spinal shock......He'll live to see another day......It was awesome to get to meet and hang out with Mr. Bob though. flag

Buck shot last night right at dark quartered away from the hunter…..He knew he hit too far back so he gave it overnight…..Came in this morning and couldn’t find arrow or blood….Did a small grid search before backing out and calling us…..Buck was 225 from the hit site…..Pretty quick and straight forward recovery for Otis. Re-ran it with the young dogs afterwards…..Buck still had velvet hanging off its rack this late I suppose due to the drought. Shout out to all my center mass shooters. thumbup grin

Got a call on a doe last night…..The hunter thought he had made a better shot and got on her a little too quick. After jumping her he backed out and called us to help. I put Ruby on this one and she ran right to it a couple hundred yards past where the deer had been jumped. While we were there we got another call to track two bucks at the same club. Neither track seemed very promising and we were pretty sure we jumped both deer. We had planned on meeting back up this morning but the hunters called me right after daylight and reported both deer already showing back up on camera.

Call came in around lunch today to look for one that was shot earlier this morning…..The entry was about right but the exit came out back in the guts about where you see Otis’s head…..The hunter saw him bed down out in the distance and then get up again and trot off…..Not having any blood to track he decided to back out and bring in the dogs…..We found him about 225 from the hit site. Reran this one with Lu-lu afterwards to get her some more experience.

A cool side note to the story……I stopped by Publix on the way home to pick up some chicken tenders…..I’m standing there waiting on the folks in the deli to box them up and I look over beside me and there stands Bo Jackson…..I hated to be one of “those people” so I just let him grocery shop in peace and went on about my business.

Baffled by this one……Call came in about 7:30 on a buck shot this afternoon. Hunter thought he smoked it and looking at the video I don’t see anything other than that….It looks like hitting the 10 ring with a pass through using a slick trick fixed blade out of a crossbow……Blood was easy to follow for 100 yards and then got a little sparse where they lost it so they called us out.

We picked back up on blood and followed it bleeding pretty steady for right at a mile. They said that coyotes were going crazy when they originally tracked it and they were still out ahead of us howling and carrying on when we got there. We eventually went off into a creek bottom where the deer got into a deep creek and beaver swamp system where we lost it. I feel quite certain that the coyotes got on this one running it but I don’t know how this deer was toting this hit to even be able to run. The hunter is supposed to call me after lunch tomorrow to go look to see if we can find it floating in the creek somewhere.

This thread always reinforces the reason there is no bow hunting on my property. They do a piss poor job of humanely killing deer, or at least the people shooting them do. Glad you are available to at least recover antlers so they won’t be totally wasted.

Went back and looked for the one from last night again today with no luck…..We were able to help another hunter recover a nice buck this morning though. This was the same buck we tracked last week that had been hit in the brisket and showed back up at the same feeder the next day……. We recovered him roughly 425 yards from the hit site. The ol’ expandable rage strikes again on this one… grin…..Sorry for the huge pics….the image resizer isnt wanting to cooperate right now for some reason.

Got a call today around lunch time to help a hunter recover his first deer with a bow….He said he thought the hit looked pretty good but the deer ran off with arrow hanging out of both sides and they weren’t able to follow blood past about 100 yards….After coming back in this morning and grid searching for a while with no luck they decided to call for a tracking dog. It ended up being a pretty routine recovery roughly 350 yards from the hit site….Super nice 6 pt…..The coyotes had already gotten on him pretty hard.
