These are the number of bucks reported to game check for each county so far……One thing I keep noticing over time as I make these deer charts is that Jackson Co is slowly becoming more and more just a middle of the pack county where as it used to be right up there at #1……

Prerut in swing at one of my Winston county leases. Scrapes everywhere and their on their feet. This cold front should get a few good ones killed

what determines #1, just the largest number? Does that really mean anything? Look at Baldwin.

All things considered, Jackson has traditionally produced some of the top harvests in the past or been neck and neck with other top producing counties…..

I don't consider Baldwin a top producing county, so not sure sheer numbers are much of a stat to use. It just means those hunters in Baldwin blast every buck that walks out in front of them!

My bad, you're right Baldwin has long been known as the top producing buck county in the state.

If you want to put into a buck killed per acre of land for each county it would look something like this currently………Here's a few counties as an example

1 buck per 9,314 acres….. Jackson

1 buck per 9,038 acres…….Morgan

1 buck per 8,007 acres….. Baldwin

1 buck per 7,594 acres…….Etowah

1 buck per 4,014 acres.....Montgomery

1 buck per 2,708 acres……Bullock

Have we not accepted that these numbers are junk, and only as good as the “honest” people using the game check app? There is no system or enforcement in place to keep people honest.

I check mine because I have no reason to attempt to kill more than 3 bucks in a season, and rarely kill more than 2. With that being said I know an older retired gentleman that hunts near me, who knows his hunting days are numbered due to diabetes. He shot 13 bucks last season, game check doesn’t reflect that.

Have those people done about the same thing for the last 4 years in reporting or not reporting??.....If so then we can compare the “trend” or the change in an individual county. You may only have 65% of the people reporting but if that same 65% are reporting year after year then you can compare whether those folks are killing more, less, or about the same. That’s a trend and gives you insight to what is happening with the overall population. The biggest variable is really in the percentage of people reporting…..you need it to stabilize to compare numbers over time.

I can assure you that there’s been more than 27 in Sumter and 30 in Choctaw.

You still aren’t taking into account the people who have never, and will never report a kill. It doesn’t matter if 65% are reporting if you have NO clue what the other 35% are killing.

But to satisfy your question, the guy I’m speaking of may not kill a buck at all this year. He goes in phases based on his health year to year.

It does matter though……Are those 65% able to keep killing the same amount they have in the past or is there total decreasing due to decreased opportunities?? That’s how this works.

Yes, there’s most certainly been more that’s been killed in each county……I think the last I saw compliance was predicted to be about 65%.......BUT what you can likely take to the bank is comparing county to county on what has been reported…..There’s really no reason to believe that there is a great amount of variance in reporting compliance from one county to another…..In other words there may have been 27 in Sumter and 30 in Choctaw but there were 147 in Bullock……… so you can safely say that there has been a significantly larger amount killed in Bullock so far.
