Has anyone here ever had to deal with blood in their stool? I know there's a million jokes that can be made about it but it's something that I've recently had to deal with and can't get in to see doctor until next week. Hopefully it's nothing but it's seriously stressing me out. Half of what I read on the internet says that it is generally a minor issue, the other half make it out to be the apocalyps and sure death. No more research for me this weekend eek

X2. Changing diet for the better should help, Fiber is a good thing!

Happened to me in 07, freaked me out. Went to Dr. Got both ends roto-rootered (actually woke up swinging at the Dr mid colonoscopy), MRI, and a whole bunch of other tests.

Got diagnosed with IBS.

No big deal, just have to eat regularly and minimize greasy foods.

Get it checked, it could be something as simple as hemeroids but it could be something as serious as colon cancer. You will worry until you know for sure. And don't self diagnose yourself from the internet because that will make you worry even more because our minds always think the worse.

Good advice right there. I knew I has a deadman until I got checked out.

Don't fear the colonoscopy, the prep is much worse than the actual test. You really need to get one scheduled.

Good advice.

I'd only add this. Is it bright red obvious blood or dark tar looking stool? Bright red blood means it's coming from the lower part of your colon. Blood turns black and has a very distinct odor after it has passed through a long section of your digestive tract. The darker tar-like stools would be a sign of blood coming from much higher up the digestive tract.

Either way get it checked. The tests they will do, despite all the joking about them, are really not that big a deal. And they could save your life.

Get checked as soon as possible.

Like Todd said, the color will tell you a lot. If its red, I would not be too concerned, although I'd still get checked.

A couple years ago my dad had black blood in his stool. Turned out it was a new medication affecting his ulcers.

I just recently had a colonoscopy and it was a breeze. The worst part was not eating real food for 30+ hours. That sucked!

Good luck.

Go to the dr either way, but if it's bright red fresh blood, it's usually a tear or hemeroids. If it's very dark, or black, you may have a more serious issue.

I had issues for many years from fissures bleeding bright red blood. I found that if I travelled or left home for several days it would get better and then start back when I came home. My wife is a brand person and has bought Northern tissue all her life. I told her I thought that had something to do with it, we changed and I have had no real issues in a couple of years.

How do you know the difference in "black, tar-like" blood and just a good ol' dark black turd from something you ate?

I just went through this exact thing with my wife. She called me at work absolutely freaking out. She said it was a lot of blood. After scoping both ends, the doctor assured her it was a moderate case of roids.

Interestingly the doctor said she should be getting 6-8 servings of fruit and vegetables every day. If she doesn't get that much she's supposed to take 2 Fiber-Con caplets each morning.

Been working in the ER for 6 years and have seen hundreds of cases of rectal bleeding. Some are very minor and some are very serious. If you see blood I would go to the ER. Most are internal hemorrhoids or external. But in some cases the bleeding can be caused from a ruptured polyp or stomach ulcer. Don't judge by the amount of blood either because sometimes the bleeding can be held in until you have a bowel movement of nothing but blood. Be safe and get it checked. Not trying to scare you, but just trying to give you safe and sound advice. Its what I would do if it was me or my family escpecially since its the weekend.
