So if I’ve taken care of myself and am not fat, can I get an extra seat as a reward?

I would like to hear them navigate the conversation with a fat woman in denial about her situation that doesn’t come out and request the full row. Seriously, how are they going to plan seating on a plane…ask for your dimensions and weight when you are shopping for a seat?

I mean, to be fair probably 50% of your business is medicating them, if not more...

I've lost 80+ pounds over the last year so guess I'm going to stuff a pillow if I fly Southwest so I can take advantage of this rule!!

I flew commercial for 20 years for business. I'm 6' 7" 320 to 340 lbs depending on the time of year. Airplane seats are not built for me. Especially leg room. The exit row seats were the most comfortable outside of 1st class. You can't request an exit row seat and the company wouldn't spring for 1st class. I paid the upgrade on occasion if I was flying cross country.

What used to piss me off was there would be some 5' 2" 115 lb cat sitting in the exit row . His feet would be dangling off the seat like a toddler on the chitter and the flight attendant would ask if they would mind switching seats with me and they would always decline. Or the cat in front of me would sit down and lean the seat back as far as it could go into my knees, knowing I was back there. People are azzholios.

So your saying people should accommodate you? The vast majority of people would feel it is unreasonable of you expect others to adjust to you when you could have purchased multiple seats or paid extra for first class. It’s the same argument from the other side.

No I'm saying people are azzholes in general. Common courtesy is dead. I never ask the attendant to try and move me. They were just trying to provide customer service by making me more comfortable and not really changing the other passengers comfort.

Plenty of nice people out that aren’t going to move for you. A lot of people like the space of an exit row. That’s the point of picking seats during booking. There are solutions out there for your problem but it costs you money.

When I was in my residency and rotating through the ER, we had several folks come in that were too big for our CT/MRI machines and we transported them to a local vets office that had scanners for horses. They also signed a waiver to sit on the floor of the ambulance because we had no way to transport them safely on a stretcher in a the ambulance. This was in the 90's. Folks are even bigger now but so are the scanning machines and ambulance stretchers.

You are correct. And I paid it at times.

Well that beats having them pour themselves into a seat next to me, and intrude into my space.

I think this is the general opinion people have. You see Karen's getting taken off a plane all the time for losing their biscuits because someone won't trade out a seat for their "precious" child, or upgrade them to first class. They think if they ask, you have to accomodate them.

Truth is those seats are small and I'm surprised more people dont have issues. I'm sort of a slim guy (sure I could lose 10 lbs) and I barely fit in the seats.
