I flipped my polaris last year - trying to go up real wet hill - had no idea could flip that easy - be careful gunning it hard going up steep hill - lucky i did not get hurt

Mossburg 835 did some damage to me at diff times - one on turkey i snuck up on - did not hav it shouldered good - large black eye and bloody face - bird had 2 beards
Shot twisted around all way around me shooting back behind me and 835 on my arm muscle when shot - worst nasty looking bruise i ever seen that wrapped all way around my arm

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self
We need prayer for our country now more than ever

I was cleaning out a 16’ box stand when it fell over with me inside. I heard my brother yell, It’s falling. I was facing the back so there was no window. I braced with my arms and I went noise first into a 2x4 brace so hard that it split my hat bill. Needless to say that required an ambulance ride along with work done to my snozzle and shoulder.

I didn’t have an accident, per se, but I did suffer an out-of-mind experience when I was about 17-18. I was climbing a really noisy(thick, very flakey bark) pine tree in my Ol’man climber. This was and afternoon hunt on a very still, quiet November afternoon. I’d gotten about 15 feet up when I realized my foot section was too loose and angled down at the front. Rather than bookity-bookity back to the ground and readjust, which would have taken 3 minutes, I decided to just carefully pull the pin and do it in the tree. I did have the foresight to secure the top section at least. I pulled the pin and off the bottom came. I spent the better part of a half hour wrestling with that floor section to get it reattached to the tree. And made a LOT of noise in the process. Lucky I was in peak shape at that time. My hernia would blow my guts right out of my sides if I had to do it today.

We lost everything except for my shotgun that I was able to go get a few days later from under the water where I left it with a duck decoy. Everytime I look at that gun it reminds me I’m lucky to be kicking still.

An Ithaca Model 37 will do that

Mossberg 500 will do it shucking shells. At least I know of 2 that did. One is in Reynolds swamp (purchased a Browning 500 later that day) and the other on the river by Koger island seen an 870 do it too.

Was hunting with a buddy once and we camped out the night before. Biggest pc of schit camper I’ve ever seen, but it was a place to sleep. Anyways, had a lantern burning and it was sitting crooked in the holder. I looked up just in time to see him “Push” the lantern down in the base. I’ve never seen human skin cook so fast 🤣🤣🤣

Some of those guns are not supposed to. A model 97 has a hammer, it's designed to shoot with the trigger held when the forearm slams a shell in the pipe. Bad medicine in the trenches during WWI.

The 37 is designed to fire like the 1897, by holding the trigger down and racking the next shell. (Both John Browning designs) I'm fairly sure the Model 12 likewise. The 870 and Mossberg are won't fire the same way. If they do, then something is broken.
I've turkey hunted with a '97 for years, and I cringe as I rack in a shell every morning. The sear/hammer connection on that design will eventually wear out, and it WILL, one day, slam fire without a finger on the trigger.

Some of the very early model 12s would.

I caught a No 8 pellet just in front of the left ear when I was 15. Doc who’d served as a surgeon in ‘Nam cut it out two days later. It knocked my head over and a stream of blood 🩸 came out when it hit. And y’all know about me breaking my back almost three years ago when a treestand broke. I’m thankful neither incident was worse ‘cause they could’ve been.

Not a hunting accident but a buddy and I killed a guy in a boating accident in 1995. We were fish in a lake out the marsh. We decided to go try another area and was coming out of a bayou into an oilfield canal. As we came into the canal we saw a boat with 2 guys in it coming into the bayou right at us. The driver of the other boat was sitting with his back towards the front and fooling with the outboard. We cut our boat to the right and when the other guy yelled at the driver, he panicked and cut their boat to the left hitting our boat as we were coming off plane. Guy sitting on the ice chest was thrown out after the front of our boat hit him. The driver apparently got thrown out also. As I ran to the front of our boat the driver flew out the water and went backwards back into the water. I could tell he was injured bad. I jumped in and grabbed him and we got him in our boat. The other guy was able to get in the boat on his own. I noticed he had a very bad cut on his thigh on his right leg. He said he thought it was from the trolling motor. My buddy started the boat and took off to the landing. Muse and the other guy did CPR on the driver all the way to the landing but I knew he was gone when we got him in the boat. Not long after we got to the landing the ambulance showed but couldn’t do anything for the driver. They took the other guy to the hospital and my buddy and I waited for the Sheriff’s office to show up. We later found out that the driver had got thrown head first into our boat and suffered blunt force trauma to the head and it killed him within a few minutes because he had no water in his lungs. It was truly a bad deal for everyone. I still see him coming out of the water like he did and I’ll never forget the look on his face. It was like he was staring right through me. I went a long time before I could go back to that area. My buddy who owned and was driving the boat was in a bad place for a long time. He sold that boat shortly after and quit fishing for a long time also. Eventually we both got past it but it’s will always be with us. Sorry for the hijack!!

Fell 22’ from a lock on. Actually stepping off of it onto spikes I’d put in the tree. Shattered my right wrist and dislocated my left shoulder. Wrist is fused now. Lucky.

Man these are tough to read… I’ve got one in particular that the good Lord was with me.

A couple of years ago a buddy and I were Huntin wma on a big clear cut for turkeys. Had one hammering up on the ridge over a gas pad…I wanted to scale the cliff before him and swing wide on him. I started scaling a tree with one foot on the tree and the other on the cliff. I made it up about 7-8 ft which I started on a hill so it was about 15-20 fr from the ground. I kept doing this and my left foot missed the tree. I then started a free fall on my back for about 10 ft when by the grace of God the tree was a split tree and it caught me on both sides of my back. Buddy helped me get unstuck but I would have landed on rocks and prolly been paralyzed when instead walked out with big bruises on both side. By the grace of God I am still running after those things.

This happened 2 years ago…

I found myself in my truck, holding a game camera… trying to remember what I was doing. I looked down and saw some batteries in the cup holder. I put a few batteries in the camera. I looked up through the windshield and couldn’t remember where I was. My truck door was open and I reached up and grabbed the door jam and I had a sharp pain in my ribs. My shoulder was throbbing. I looked over to my left and saw a ladder stand laying on the ground about 15 yards off the road in the woods. The ladder was folded in half. Then I remembered I was at the hunting club putting a ladder stand up. I realized I must have fell. Then I remembered getting the breath knocked out of me really really bad. I still couldn’t remember exactly where I was on the property. Nothing looked familiar. I saw a spot in front of the truck where it looked like a corn pile had been eaten so I went ahead and put out some corn and put my camera on a tree… hoping my memory would return to me. I couldn’t find my cell phone on me or in my truck. I have had about 10 concussions in my life from high school football and work and just general accidents. So I figured my memory would eventually start clicking. It didn’t. I was hurting bad in my shoulder and ribs. I sat around about 40 minutes trying to remember how to get back to the camp but I couldn’t even remember what the camp looked like. Not sure if any of y’all have ever lost your memory like that but is was pretty scary. I was at the dead end of a road so I know I needed to turn around and head back the other way. I turned the truck around and started driving down the logging road hoping I would see something that would jog my memory. I got to a tee in the road and remembered I needed to go right. Slowly my memory started to return as I saw things on the way back to the camp. I was up there by myself, left my phone on charge in my cabin, putting up a sketchy old ladder stand for bow season. I still don’t remember falling, but I do remember leaning the stand against the tree and starting up the ladder. I fell right beside a bunch of privet stobs that I had cut with a machete. 2 feet over I probably would have taken one through the lung like an arrow. I don’t know how long I was out. I don’t remember getti by up and getting in the truck or grabbing the camera.

Had to make some old man lifestyle changes after that day. I bought a lineman’s belt. And I don’t climb anything but shooting house steps if I’m at the camp alone. Just some ground rules I set for myself. And for my wife 🤣. Of course it scared her more than it scared me.
