Have any of you ever used Waterproof Green Grease for packing wheel bearings? I wasn't aware that there is an apparent grease shortage until yesterday. I went to every auto parts store in Albertville and none of them have more than one tube of marine grease. I wanted 3 tubes, and couldn't even get 2 of the same brand, between 5 parts stores. They all have the Waterproof Green Grease so that's what I went with. I had never used it before, and I can say that I've never tried to use grease, that's this thick, or sticky. I had no intentions of using this grease, but it's all I could find locally to repack my boat trailer bearings that was waterproof. I had a cluster of a day yesterday and only got 2 of the 4 hubs packed. I tried to pump grease into the spindle of the axle to fill the hub with grease, but it's so thick that I don't think it's pushing past the bearing race on the back side of the hub. I have those spindles with grease fitting on the end, where the grease goes into the spindle and out at the rear bearing. Supposed to be able to push grease from the back of the hub, out to the front of the hub. I didn't get the two hubs with disc brakes removed yet. Those are a pain to do. I don't want to have to redo those two hubs a few months down the road. The grease we use at our shop is a high pressure grease with moly and it's not to be used on wheel bearings. You can bet before I do this again, I'll order a 10 pack of marine grease from our distributor. Everything I read, says it okay for wheel bearings, but I am not satisfied with the minimal amount of grease in the hubs. I manually repacked my bearings after cleaning them, but I still don't feel confident that they'll be okay. I know guys that never tear their hubs down, and only put grease in them occasionally. I am not that guy. But now that I've started this project, I don't feel real good about it. Maybe I'm overthinking this, like I do most things. Thanks for the replies. I’m tearing the hubs down in one of our barns, but it’s not heated. I may try heating the grease on the defrost vents in my truck to see if the spindle will take grease. I purged the old grease out of the spindle with the green stuff, so I know that the zerk is taking grease.

It's a different animal than Red & Tacky which some prefer. At room temp it doesn't have that kind of body to it. We use to carry a red grease that was water resistant and that's what I used last time. It has emulsified with the water that's gotten into the hubs and turned varying shades of pink, depending on the amount of water. It had a similar viscosity to Lucas Marine grease, which is what I was trying to find yesterday. I'm going to use this green stuff and give it a review. Because of our business, I have probably rebuilt more hubs than about anyone on here. I'm just second guessing this grease. I'm glad to know others have experience with it. It's definitely a different animal. I normally tighten my hubs until they won't turn, to seat the bearings to their correct depth, then back off until they turn freely. This grease is high pressure enough that I cannot bottom the hub out to stop it from turning. Even with a 3/4" breaker bar on a 1 1/2" socket. Setting the amount of slop in the bearings is going to be a guess at this point.
