Hunted Coosa for first time. The hills can get you here. I was on the look out for a big buck or pigs. I’ve heard pigs are there but didn’t see any or any sign. I covered a lot of ground within the north central section of the WMA.. I did manage to crawl through some briars and small pines atop a small hill that over looked more cutover that was a mix of open grass, briar and pines to find a rack buck bedded in the sunlight on other side. He was a six point and he was laid out with eyes closed. There was a doe about ten yards behind him browsing into a thicket and lost sight of her but watched him for an hr waiting to see if a bigger guy walked out. Then I decided to mess w him and experiment a bit with my deer calls. First I grunted; that got his attention as he jerked his head awake and stared in my direction. I did this a few more times w same results. He wouldn’t get up, but instead just closed his eyes and chewed his cud. So I did a doe n heat call and got same reaction. It was fun but I didn’t any more deer while hunting. I did see three doe when driving in though. My overall impression of that area of the WMA is that I bet there are some good bucks in there but you better be in good shape to find them and even better shape to get them out.

I've hunted Coosa about 10 times and the only racked buck I've seen this year was in the dang parking lot at Higgin's Ferry last night. I still haven't got them figured out yet. You're right about the hills, they're no joke. It's usually about 200' of elevation change from the lake to the tops of the ridges.
