I did the keto diet about 3 years ago and lost 41 lbs in 4 months. I guess I'll try it again. First i got to eat up all these twinkies! I’ve asked several of my docs about the keto since I’m type 2. Gotta watch kidneys so lots of water and learned yesterday it will drive your cholesterol up

I took it for about 18 months and while it got my numbers to what my doctor called “perfect”, it made me feel like run over dog crap, and it caused some mental issues - mainly just noticeably more forgetful or “scatter-brained”. Mine was only “borderline” high (my doctor’s words) and frankly I think she was premature in putting me on it. After 18 months I told her something had to give and I wanted to try changing my diet to see if I could control it that way and she said she was ok with that.
I changed my diet to almost complety cut out [processed] sugar, stopped eating fried food on any regular basis, almost never eat fast food anymore, except the occasional chicken biscuit as a treat, and only eat red meat maybe twice/month (that was the one I thought would be hardest but it ended up being much easier than I expected). We eat a lot of chicken and fish, grilled/roasted vegetables, etc. I also started walking 2 miles, 3-4 times a week.
Early on my cholesterol climbed back up some, but after about 6 months of the above, it came back down. Not down to the “perfect” numbers but within the “acceptable” range. I dropped about 20 pounds and felt noticeably better. I’ve gotten a little lazy with it the last couple of months but have started back and have (just this week) started back in a formal gym for the first time since 2010.
I realize a better diet and exercise doesn’t work for everyone but it has for me
