I've been taking atorvastatin for a long time, from the VA. I read the thread about what to use getting off of this. I ordered apple pectin 700 mg/mk-7 (vitamin K-2) 100mg/CoQ10 100 mg/Nattokinase 2,000FUs. Which of these and how much for an almost 68 year old, overweight 6'0" 240 lb male? Thank you!

Follow the directions on the bottles and when you have your next bloodwork done adjust accordingly You can buy your own machine that will check your cholesterol if you dont want to wait and theyre not very expensive
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

and please speak to and get the advice from an actual medical professional. what you do with the advice is up to you but at least you'll have that perspective when making an informed decision.

I would think that he has to have a cardiologist if he's been prescribed a statin, so I sure hope that he talks to him about it. Heart disease runs on both sides of my family. My dad had his first heart attack at age 47, wouldn't take the statins, and he kept stopping up and having heart attacks until one finally killed him. I made it to age 58 before having my first, had my second a few months later. They put 6 stents in my heart and put me on a statin, and I've had no more heart trouble for 12 years now. Having a stress test next week to see if I have developed more blockages. I am all for doctoring myself, but maybe there's times to listen to the doctor. This is just my experience, and I know that there are some great heart doctors on here that will give you better advice.

I didn't have a cardiologist until the last year. No heart problems. No family history of this. I went to get the yearly $99. testing that Baptist hospital ( in Montgomery) has once per year. It was thorough and they said I had lots of blockage. Well, the VA sent me to their testing, which was very extensive, and included the radioactive xray and a lot more. They said "No problemo"! I don't now what to believe at this point...lol I'm taking 40 mg of the statin right now. Is that a lot?

I don't blame you for not wanting to take them with no history of heart disease. Prayers for wisdom in making a good decision!

You’d be amazed at what can be accomplished by addressing the overweight portion. Reduce carbs and add exercise as permitted and tolerated. As I started to get crippled up by arthritis/injuries/two neck and two back surgeries/getting to be an old fart, these things combined to get fat. Ugh. I've been cutting back but I have a horrible sweet tooth. I stay real busy around the farm but it is not enough. The dang knee replacement has really been a bad thing. I can hardly walk after a day around here and it's been six months!!! If I don't feel good, I eat...and I don't feel well a lot of the time. Just can't escape it. One of these days Heaven is going to come calling and I look forward to the new body there.

Refined sugar, processed foods and seed oils are your enemy and in that order All of them cause inflammation which causes LDL cholesterol to oxidize and clog arteries

One of these days Heaven is going to come calling and I look forward to the new body there. The only way you will be able to change that is to alter your diet and get on some sort of exercise regimen. I joined a gym and hired a trainer. I see him 1 time a week for 30 minutes. They create a weight lifting plan around my torn disk in my back. I haven't been as focused on nutrition, but have started doing that too. I have been doing this for almost a year. I spend, right now, 3 hours a week in the gym. I have changed up my night time diet to a meat and rice. I air fry the meat, and just cook white rice in a rice cooker. Salt and pepper it and its fine. I am looking for a bigger air fryer, I got a really small one because I wasn't sure I would like it or use it, but its really a good way to go. I see people who come in the gym who are over weight, and I don't see many of them, if any, really put forth an effort to lose weight. They come in and lift, which helps some, but then only do 5 or 10 minutes of cardio, and its not strenuous. The more cardio you do, the more weight you can lose. Assuming you cut calories too. There are all sorts of low impact cardio machines and bikes. I do the stairmaster for 30 minutes, twice a week. By the time I am done, I am dripping wet. My heart rate has come down a little as far as maxed, but still gets up around 154 bpm. My resting is down in the low 70's last time I checked. I burn about 600 calories per session on the stair master.

Eating is like a savings account. If you don't put it in, you won't have it to spend.
