Man that thing is already beautiful. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Did you make that with a CNC? Originally it was a table for the Fire Station I was assigned to. The Top was assembled of thick cut red oak and maple, CNC designed by me, two test runs before this was made. There was a little chatter on the CNC cut on the lettering. Another FF I was close to and I hand chiseled and hand sanded (with a pencil sander) everything. It wasn't perfect but it was close. Another FF was supposed to clear coat it. It sat for a few years and nothing happened. I think he had good intentions but was intimidated and wouldn't say it. Eventually it was handed off to someone that wasn't qualified to do it. I wasn't consulted and let's just say it wasn't done properly. Then the new station captain didn't like it, moved it outside to a patio and caused further issues. They were going to get rid of it. I had retired by then. I balked to the chief and as a favor he gave it to me. I cut everything away but the emblem, it was the only part salvageable. What you see in the photo is the emblem with a foggy finish I might or might not be able to salvage. But I'm trying. It will work in its current condition, but I want better. I decided to use a whiskey barrel for the base and this is where I'm at now. It won't be perfect, but it will be a lot better than what I was given back. This was the last project my grandfather helped me with, I've got a photo somewhere of my friend David, Scott, My grandfather and I working on it. The top, before I cut it down, probably weighed 400 pounds. The current top weighs near 100 probably. I'm going to make 2 foot rests from iron pipe. It's not big enough for more. I'm going to buy two very nice bar stools to go with it.

That's slick. Is there a reason for painting the wood and steel black and not leaving it the original , whiskey barrel look? The rest of the room is gray and black. Except my pool table which is dark gray, similar to what the wood stain on the barrel will be when complete.
