So we went on our 1st camping trip this week with our travel trailer. Bucks Pocket is very nice by the way if you haven't checked it out.


What I learned

-It sucks to forget your power cord and have to go back to get it Make a list of important MUST have items and check it 100 times to make sure you have it packed.
-Forgot to pack a tool kit, you will definitely need that
-Gloves for the sewage hookup
-Extra Fuses
-Backup Camera while not necessary would be nice

Don't use the camper heat system. Sucks propain. Small electric ones. Fry on the outside stove.

25yrs ago, that park was out in nowhere. You could drive from g valley State Park to bucks pocket and not pass one car or house. I miss those days. The fishing was another level back then too. The views.

1) Pull with the right size truck.
2) Never ever, buy a new camper.
4) Must have air conditioning, to include a vent in the ceiling (heat is in the floor) in the master bedroom!.
5) Master bedroom must be able to be closed off from the living area.
6) Lay down in the bed before you buy! The end of the bed to the wall in our camper is 6' 2". I am 6'1".
7) Never let your father in law help you back in your space.
8) The longer the camper the more spots you cant fit in. Some places are designed by some real jokers.
9) Buy a 30/50 amp extension cable. Try finding one at 1am when you realize the power pole is on the opposite side and your cable will not reach.
10) Buy the surge protector that plugs in the power box then to your cable.
11) Always carry a tool box, spare camper fuses, tv cables (pole to your camper), tv cable splitter, tv cable barrel nut, board games (when it rains)
12) Always lock your camper door when hauling down the interstate.....ask me how I know. Also hide a spare key under the camper somewhere
13) Lock up your distribution hitch in addition to your camper if you leave the site.
14) If camping in the winter, watch your propane levels, changing/flipping the switch outside at 3am in 25 degree weather sucks.
15) Make sure you have an extension (and 90 angles) to your poop hose, again reference #9
16) Always have rubber gloves.

17) If this is your 1st camper, try a couple of spots very close to the house. You will forget something, this way you can add it your camping list.

I’ve camped my whole 38 years on this earth. Biggest thing I’ve learned is to not post it on social media. Social media and covid has about ruined camping. They some crazy crazy folks out there now.

Harbor freight tool kits are handy to just keep in you camper as well as a good extension cords. Get you taken totes and label your stuff, un pack it at camp, and clean it and pack it back in them when done. Win win

I don’t consider staying in a camper really camping. When we camped as a kid we used a tent. The most valuable lesson I learned from tent camping was “don’t go”

Multiple adapters for your 30 amp power cord.

Roughing it definitely changes with age. Roughing it now means turning the air conditioner off for a little while.

Same, my son and I tent camped at Army Corp camp grounds when we hunted WMAs years ago. When we could not afford a hunting club or to lease land. Some of my best memories but it was not easy. RV camping has always seems like too much work to me and the cost seems really high if you are not going alot. I much prefer to AirBnB a cabin vs purchasing an RV. But man those things appear to be selling like hot cakes. They building RV storage places left and right. And now folks are living in them full time due to the extreme cost of housing. RV sales usually go up and down but it appears they have been strong since Covid, with no end in sight.

Yep and a comfortable bed vs ground or hammock.

An assortment of cotter pins is good to keep on hand too. You’ll be surprised at how many places on a trailer has/needs one when you get to looking. Also, make sure the tool that came with your trailer to manually open/close the slide out is the correct one. Lots of times the tool will be put in a trailer that isn’t the proper one. Makes for a bad day when you realize it and need it right then.

I also carried 3 2x8 pieces cut on 45° angles in ascending length. When lot was really unlevel I could them together as needed to help with leveling with less stress on jacks. Always use wheel chocks
