Best year I ever had. Killed 3 good bucks for the WMA in MS where I hunt.

Tornado hit our place during the summer so that kept us from planting summer plots. Late timber clean up and then some clear cutting and late food plots hurt us. The whole place changed but it will be spectacular in a couple of years.

Got hot a couple of times and at other times felt pretty down.....Got on a tear about two weeks into bow season. Really found myself on the X on a couple different tracts of public land I frequent. I hunted a long weekend the first weekend in november and seen well over 30 deer on a couple of different sits. Early season in the hardwoods hunting over acorns is my favorite part of the season.
The second hot streak was the first week of January. Me and some family and friends took off all week and hunted some public land we like. Ended up taking 4 bucks in 6 days. I killed a 7 point and a really big 5 point that weighed about 190 lbs. Friend of mine missed a good 8 point and my father in law let a good un get by him. (He was in a tree 60 yards from my camera when I got a pic of a good one that he couldn't get a shot at.) Dad shot a really nice 8 point, and a 6 point and everyone seen a pile of deer. Really good run.
Dad's farm in Dallas county was pretty slow, and it seems to have less and less deer every year(if that is to be believed). Still cannot figure out why. The one high point is that there is a very nice 8 point that is getting even more frequent in daylight than he has been in the past two years and as of day before yesterday was still alive and well. Got a really good video of him walking down an old roadbed in daylight several times over the course of the last 7 days. If he stays put he should live barring he doesnt get in front of us Saturday morning. I would like to get him sooner or later. I had him at 40 yards during bow season in a dried up duck pond underneath some persimmon trees. Unfortunately it was just too dark to see my pins and he got away from me. That is the first face to face encounter I have ever had with him despite getting at least a picture of him every two weeks year round since August of 2021. Deer quantity and quality continue to decline on dads farm. The bucks we do see besides the nice 8 point are pretty pathetic. 3 and 4 year olds with fork horns and no brow tines.. Kind disappointing given how hard we have worked on that place.
Hunted Upper State SOA two weeks ago. Never had a legal deer in range. Definitely the low point of the season.

With just a Little luck it could have been THE best season, was still excellent. I had 5 dif decent bucks in front of my girl and we couldn’t get it done. One or two hunts left.

Sucked. Only went 2 wknds this season. Looking at joining a club again next year in bama. Already got an invite just need find the funds now. Moving to Tn has really lowered my hunting opportunities. Unless you own land up here you pretty much screwed. Fired one shot this year at a hog I should have killed. Freezer pretty much empty of game and it sucks.

Unless something changes in the next 2 days, this will be my worst season in Ala. in my 52 years of hunting.
Grandma said...Always keep a gun close at hand, you just never know when you might run across some varmint that needs killing...

Very good season. Took a kid hunting every single time I went. Never got to hunt by myself or any of the stands I hung in the woods. We will call it 4 each 130+ inch deer in adult range... one would probably push 150 a nice 10pt. Kid clean misses the 10 at hand grenade distance Buck Fever took eye off scope to look just as the tigger was pulled. and 3 were too far to shoot or the kid didn't feel confident. All these within 200 yards and a chip shot for an Adult.
You will figure out a lot about yourself and how much passing this sport down means to you... when you have a sold 140 inch deer standing 150 yards away in a wide open food plot. But you've got a kid next to you and they don't shoot for whatever reason and you let it walk off. And you say "We'll try again next Saturday". Borderline crazy but I did it several times over this season. One I would guess to have been probably the biggest I would have ever killed in AL. These kids don't come from families that regularly hunt. 2 of them Dad is not involved or in the picture at home.
Dam good season for me.
ALL kids FIRED UP and already talking about next season...... and what these deer are going to look like..... and how we are going to get them... Got one ready to get in a tree and out of a shooting house. Asking about when Bow season starts in the fall and NEVER even shot a real bow.
100% success rate in my book. Probably the best deer season I've ever had. At the beginning of the season I had no idea I would even hunt more than 2-3 times with a kid in tow.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Blessed to be able to go but by far the worst I’ve ever had hunting wise. Missed an 8 and didn’t see any other really shoot able bucks nor did I see many deer this year. Work got in the way of going and had crappy weather a lot of the times I went. Had a lot of fun at the camp and my 9mo old son came to the camp for the first time so just due to that, it made it a memorable one!
