All the guys are out of the woods after today and its time to get'em in the ground
If this knee will allow I will be after'em next week

I bought some dog proofs and some 650s a couple weeks ago. Gotta make some anchors and figure out what I'm doing, this'll be a first for me.

I have been running a few DP's since August, I have caught 11 coons and 6 possums. I have noticed that after they see a buddy stuck in one they shy away from them, moved them around a lot, since I am new to it and I turkey hunt every day of the season, do you guys keep running them in turkey season?

Keep em out as often as you can check em, I can’t always go everyday so I just run em when I can

Never run traps 3 weeks before turkey season comes in to let everything settle down a bit from me being in there every day

I put two flat sets out today on a field road where I've been getting coyote pics every 2-3 nights. I'll put out 12 or more next week and all my DP traps.

Set 9 DP's yesterday. Will move them around & pick them up around March 1st. I would love to trap coyote, bobcats and fox but would catch every yard dog in a 10 mile radius.

If you have that many yard dogs running your property then catching them may be just what you need to do
Use offset jaw traps and teach them to stay away via the sore foot method

Yep. I gonna try to get some coons too. I’d love to catch some yotes but not willing to do all the waxing, dyeing, ect. Hoping I can locate some already prepared. I think this would be so fun!

I stopped dyeing and waxing trap several years ago
I clean them free of all rust and spray them with a good enamel paint and it last a couple seasons or more
I’ve seen no difference in the catch ratio vs traditional methods

You are speaking the truth. I have 4 labs that are kennel dogs. They are good 99% of the time but once a year one will go on a walkabout. Same guy who owns the yard dogs has her in his yard or calls me to come get the pup. It isn't worth it to have him mad about sore footed dogs.

Hard for him not to notice a Ranger coming down the road every day. Nobody around me traps. For me the risks outweigh the rewards.

On a happy note, I have taken out 5 egg eaters on 200 acres. Will move traps this weekend and try to take out some more before nesting season.

I've caught all the neighborhood dogs. A few several times. One beagle 5 times mostly on blind sets. She's a rabbit chasing machine and only let's me pet her. I feed her cat food everytime so she's my buddy. Never seen a dog limp more than a couple days because of a trap

There's a fellow in Shelby county who makes/sells a quality trap bait for every critter. It's called "Wildman's Hammertime" bait. His name is James Smith....he's on Facebook.
