Lamar co, Christmas week-first week in Jan every year. What concerns me is bucks shedding so early this year (early for me). I’ve seen deer many times hold their horns till turkey season, this year seems like a lot are shedding during hunting season. Just odd and I’m curious to why. There’s no doubt our area needs a 1/31 end date.

I haven't hunted in the SW part of the State but directly South and SE of Montgomery needs the extended season. From Central AL going North I would say it is not needed.
The overall problem is that RIFLE Deer season is too long. IMO we should have a week of gun season the week of Thanksgiving Sat-Sat. then go back to bow only for a couple weeks.
People gonna cry in their Wheaties but maybe there should be a big push to encourage small game hunting. 90% of Alabama just rides a shooting house if deer season is open they don't even think about doing something else. That's an issue IMO long-term this is terrible for the sport of hunting overall. Not everyone goes deer hunting and loves it.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Fayette County, peak breeding is between Christmas and Jan 10. Bucks were back together around January 20th. I was in Greene co Friday and jumped two groups of bachelor bucks bedding together. Bucks have been shedding since the last week in January. Thats pretty quick Notice he said PEAK breeding. The rut will trickle on till March. I figured “pretty quick “ was talking about shedding that soon after rut.
