Anyone have plans for a floating turtle trap? My pond is getting pretty crowded. Thanks in advance

Don’t wast your time decent treble hook with a bass weight and cast over them real up to a few feet and snatch. We killed 30 plus in a few hrs as teenagers in a pond.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I've got a "fish trap" at camp that's nothing but a turtle catching Moooooochine 😄

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

If they snapping turtles catch em, clean em and eat em. Don’t get better than fried turtle, I skin 7-8 a year to eat. Fine groceries

Had a lot of fun catching in ponds with a treble hook under a orange cork as close as you could get it. Just throw near them and they will come get it.

I have one of those traps if someone wants it.
It’s a store bought model made out of galvanized metal.
The trap doors and frame are in good shape, but it’ll need new floats and screen on the sides.

I'll take it if available. I may be in Butler on Thursday

Same here. Watching pieces of shell skipping across the water is quite fun.

Been doing that. Works good but can’t get em all. Plus when they float up a few days later the dogs find and roll in em. They stank after being sun baked

Take 2 pieces of 2x4 and make an X. Get some large test fishing line, with a sinker that reaches the bottom, and another line about 3 or 4 feet down with a hook and some meat on it. Toss it out and wait. When the turtle gets hooked, he'll climb up on the 2x4's and float. Then go out and pick up your dinner.

When you have a bunch of turtles, shooting takes forever to get them all. One shot and they all go under for 3-5 minutes. Every time you shoot they stay under longer and eventually get gun shy and go under when they see movement. Trap quickly and quietly gets them all in a few days.

Yep. That’s the situation I’m in now

I’m not a turtle lover and not being critical of those wanting them out of their of pond but , I’m wondering do they cause a biological problem for a pond ? I know snapping turtles will eat bream and such by siting on the bottom with their mouths open wiggling something in their mouth to attract fish. However I would think most of the turtles shot on the surface or caught in these traps would be terrapins/sliders. I wouldn’t think they are fast enough to hurt the fish population. I guess maybe they compete with fish for some food sources such as craw dads and insects.
