Need a little help with ideas. I’m on a budget and looking to get a brand new rifle so not looking for used. Most likely going to be a 308. Trying to find one under $650. The original Ruger Americans might be an option. Also found a savage 110 hunter deal for under $700. Please feel free to throw in feedback on these 2 if you have experience with them as well as new options I haven’t thought of. Dad has a savage axis which is a good value but not something I’m interested in for this project. I liked the new Savage trail hunter but I don’t like it as much as I did to begin with. I feel like I’ve looked through all the brands and nothings really tripping my trigger.

Be hard to beat a Ruger American. Howa or Weatherby Vanguard (same rifle) would be solid choices also.

I'd give a hard look at the Stevens 334 or the Ruger American Gen II in Standard.

The Stevens 334 trigger is awful...Don't try adjusting it either

Weatherby still makes a solid rifle, the vanguard can be had new for less than that.
Or Howa.

I like the feel of the ruger american Gen II. I would also look at the tikka T3x or the bergara B14. Academy has the Tikka for $750 and a lot of places have end of the season deals right now, you could get a higher end gun in your price point.

Hate to be that guy but a lightly used higher quality rifle like the model 700 in 7 mag in the classified's for 450 would be hard to beat.

But BCLC"s suggestion for new would be a fine choice too.

Marks had a Tikka or two marked down in the sixes I think. Don’t remember the caliber. They had some nice, lightweight savage storms in that price range as well.

Have two Howas and they've been great. Most accurate .308 I've owned as a matter of fact.

Thanks for all the ideas. I checked out most of the suggestions but still trying to decide.
