Federal has had a bad reputation on and off for years.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Would a stuck wadding cause it to blow up? I wouldnt want to find out! I know of a few stories of people getting mud in the barrel which caused it to split, swell, or rupture. There is no way mud in the end would cause as much damage as this may have. I almost could not knock it out with the stick I used to clear it. Its was sure tight. I'm no engineer well versed in pressure but I believe there would have been an "unplanned rapid disassembly".

I'm no engineer well versed in pressure but I believe there would have been an "unplanned rapid disassembly". after I read your post I pondered on that for the rest of the day. Figured it was probably 50/50. I seen something similar happen on a dove field. I seen a fireball when he shot. Figured he must of grabbed some buckshot or something by accident. Afterwards he described something similar to you. Kinda shook him up.

I tried some Federal dove shells many years ago and they cut my kill rate in half. They are just plain poor quality. I like Rio's for doves, Winchester for Turkey loads. Rio's require frequent gun cleaning they are some nasty shells but boy they hit hard and I have never had one fail. I need to find some, thats what I went to the truck to fill my vest with last Saturday. The big swampers didnt like them in #6's
