Got this from archery talk. What are your stories?
Walking back out of the woods at 2:30am (with only my headlight) after hunting rabbits at night with my bow. I felt strong thunderstorm winds upon my back - that's when I noticed a large black object was approaching me quickly from the rear. I could not confirm what it was, but the faster I moved forward - the faster it moved and it was gaining ground. When I reached the crossroads, it swiftly passed me and disappeared into the field across the gravel road. That's when I realized - it was a very large black trash bag flowing with the high winds. Scared the $h!t out of me - and YOU??

This story is not abt me, I swear. My buddy was hauling his climber out of the woods and kept hearing something behind him but every time he stopped....it stopped. Long story short, as he sprinted to the truck he finally realized the mountain lion chasing him was his pull up rope from his stand dragging the ground...... I laughed for an hour when he told me later .....me and abt 20 of my friends text message update on what was seen abt dark 30 every day , my better half loves hunting season
Another of my buddies was walking out and noticed a set of eyes walking at him abt 5' off the ground. A lot of screaming and hollering later and having knocked the safety off 100 times he realized it was a cow
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers.......... Si Robertson

This happened to me about 16-17 years ago. I was hunting in a ladder stand on the edge of a swampy area one Sunday afternoon. I had decided to hunt till about 4:00, instead of hunting till dark, so I could get an early start on my drive home. It had been a slow weekend at the club and everyone else had already left, leaving me on the property by myself. When 4:00 rolled around I scanned the area one more time before I started to get up to make sure a deer wasn't around that maybe I just hadn't seen. Right when I stood up, before I could get turned around for my descent, I heard the loudest roar come from the swamp behind me. I quickly turned around but couldn't see anything. Whatever it was, was so loud I just knew it was right on top of me. Still I didnt see anything but it freaked me out enough that I knew I was climbing out of that tree so I sat back down watching for movement tryingbo see what made the noise. I kept trying to decide what it was. It definitely wasn't a bobcat. I've heard those. This was much louder and deeper. I wondered if I was a mountain lion or something (same the big cat jokes for another thread). I wondered if it was a bear. I had heard old timers tell bear stories around this area before. I didn't know what it was but I knew I wasn't getting down out of that tree. After about 20 minutes of sitting there it hit me that if I didn't get down now, it would be dark within another 20 minutes or so. I also remembered that I was the only one at the club so no one would come looking for me when I didn't sign back in. No one would miss me till at least 10:00 or 11:00 that night when I didn't show up at home. I knew it would be nearly morning before someone would find me, so I decided to get down. I scanned the area again and climbed down the ladder. I don't think my feet hit the ground for the first 15', I ran so fast. I was heading towards my Chevy Blazer parked about 200 yards away. OJ Simpson couldn't have outran me that evening. I made it to the blazer and fired her up. I tried to put it in 4 wheel drive for the drive out but it wouldn't engage. I tried driving out in two wheel drive but couldn't get over the dirt humps that was put there to help prevent washing. Finally, after several attempts, I backed up about 100 yards to get a running start. I floored it. When I hit that mound of dirt that old Blazer flew so high that Evil Kineval would of been proud. I did the same thing on the next two mounds. Finally, I made it out of the woods, minus a muffler. I never did know what made that roar in the woods that afternoon. I suspect it was a bear. I don't know. It was a long time before I would even tell anyone.

The most scared i have ever been is when your walking down a field row and a covey of qual jump up from under you, that will make your heart skip a beat. Also hate it when your bent down hanging your climber and you think something is watching you from behind.

Try being a teenager hunting in a bottom in Perry Co. Coming out of the stand one evening you get off your trail that leads you to the road without realizing it. You walk through the woods and come across an odd stone in the trees, and you can't make it out because your mini mag light is going dim from dead batteries. Your curiosity gets the best of you and you ease up to the stone and then you see it. Name and dates - a headstone from the 1800s. Shine the light around and more are on the ground all around! You're in the middle of a 150 year old cemetary!
I ran like no other! Finally found the logging road and got the heck outta dodge!

Climbing the tree at dark-thirty when I lived in WV. I did a great job being stealthy silent getting all my gear up the tree. I went to put my bow on the hanger above me and as I did a screech owl turned loose on a limb about a foot above my head. I grabbed the tree for dear life as most of my gear fell off the tree. Owl tore off through the woods and I felt pretty silly after all was said and done.
Other things being equal, it is the man who shoots with his heart in his bow that hits the mark.

I just got in my stand and climbed up a tree to about 25' and the bottom platform had to much angle. Stupid me says "I can adjust my cable a notch or two". Now my stand has an open face seat. So I "pickup" the bottom half with my legs while sitting and attempt to adjust the cable and got a cramp in my leg. The bottom half fell and was caught by the tether strap. Sitting that far up facing away from the tree was the most scared I've been in a tree stand (even with a safety belt on). I finaggled the bottom half back up and left it alone.

Admit it Trox, you have a lot more than two stories ! You little girl ! LMAO I do have one about hogs scaring the shiit outta me..only because I had never heard em before...I had a lease in perry county and a few of us went to hunt that day..Well I decided to go to a stand in some thinned pines backing up to a swamp. My step dad was suppose to go to a little patch we had planted about 400 or so yards away.Well I left before anybody else did..bout 1 pm to get settled back in my stand and leaving the others at the house on the lease. After being in the stand a few hrs I heard what I thought was 2 squatches making babys bout 200 yards or so down around the swamp..skeered the shiit outta me cause I had never heard anything like it.I got my so.linc out and beeped my step dad to see if he heard it...well...Another guy answered his radio. It was a buddy of mine that was hunting with us.Then my step dad got on the radio.I said WTF are y'all doin.. sitting in the shooting house together like a buncha faggets? They laughed and laughed because they knew the noise I was hearing skeered me to death but they couldn't hear it or do anything about it cause they were sitting at the house drinkin beer..They didn't even go hunting...It ended up being a buncha hogs.Once they got closer I realized that..but I sure nuff thought I was gonna be sasquatch supper that afternoon... The other 2 stories I speak of perch really did make me feel like a girl..That's why there staying with me.

I was slipping in a hour or so before daylight one deer season on a moonless night, i mean barely see your hand in front of your face. I had maybe 3 or 4 turkeys spook off the roost just as I walked under them. I thought a swamp booger had done got me and I about tore the bark off the closest tree trying to get up it. We hunted in Marengo County in the late 80s/early 90s, when I was in high school. One morning, I decided to hunt out of a ladder stand we had. I got my stuff together and my dad dropped me off on the road to the ladder stand about 45 minutes before sunup. I found the stand and started climbing...until I was about 2 rungs from the top. That is when the turkey that was roosting right above the stand decided to take flight. I could have swore that a Blackhawk helicopter was taking off right above my head. I jumped off the ladder and was about to high tail it back to the camp when I realized what it was.
